It is true there were only 300 Spartan soldiers at the Battle of Thermopylae but they were not alone, as the Spartans had formed an alliance with other Greek states. It is thought that the number of Greeks was closer to 7,000. The size of the Persian army is disputed.
Modern day Sparta, the capital of the prefecture of Lakonia, lies on the eastern foothills of Mount Taygetos in the Evrotas River valley. The city has been built upon the site of ancient Sparta, whose Acropolis lies north of the modern city. To the southwest stands Mt. Taygetos.
The historical Xerxes probably did not consider himself a god, but he was a legend in his own time. He removed a golden statue from the temple of Zeus, desecrating the temple, something his father Darius did not dare to do.
Overall I really enjoyed 300: Rise of an Empire. Rather than focusing on the sheer brute force of the Spartans, Rise of an Empire was more about the brilliance of the leaders. Eva Green was exceptional and the movie is worth seeing for her if nothing else.

The wars between Persia and Greece took place in the early part of the 5th century BC. This humiliation led to the attempt to conquer Greece in 480-479 BC. The invasion was led by Xerxes, Darius's son. After initial Persian victories, the Persians were eventually defeated, both at sea and on land.

Some elites are stronger than spartans. But its never by a large ammount. I would say most elites are on par with spartans when it comes to strength without armor. And then when the spartans do have armor they are stronger than most elites.
The most important piece of gear to a Spartan was their shield. The biggest shame a soldier could have was to lose his shield in battle.
300 Vikings surprising 300 Spartans will definitely have an edge in the battle, along with better armor and a slight size advantage. Round 4: By sea? Spartans would likely do very well but this can go down to a Viking victory.
The Spartans had two kings in their society. There was also a council of elders. They didn't believe the Persians to be a large enough threat to send the entire army of about 6,000. Instead, they believed that 300 Spartans were elite enough to hold the pass.
At an unknown date in 331 BC, a Macedonian army of Alexander the Great, led by his regent, Antipater, defeated the forces of Sparta, led by King Agis III. The Spartan King had conspired with the mortal enemy of the Greeks, the Persians, and had let on his plans to attack the Macedonian forces of Alexander.
Physiology. Depending on the type of Spartan the height of a Spartan (fully armoured) is 7 feet tall (spartan 3) 8 feet tall (spartan 2) and 6 to 7 feet tall (spartan 4), and have a reinforced endoskeleton.
