There are a lot of stories of people having their snowmobiles last 20 years or more on the various snowmobile forums. If we assume 1000 miles per year that means we can see some snowmobiles lasting 20k miles. For many people, this is why 10k to 15k is regarded as the life expectancy of a snowmobile.

The Yamaha Sidewinder SRX is ready to defend its title as the world's fastest production snowmobile.But both offer great footing and tend to do a great job in eliminating snow buildup. Ski-Doo boards are a tad bit wider and tend to offer a better working platform. That said, they also tend to hang up a bit in the snow. Since Polaris boards are narrower, they tend to glide better through the snow.
The 2020 Yamaha lineup has different snowmobiles for any type of rider needs. Today Yamaha announced that for 2020 the company isn't making waves with double-digit new models, instead increasing its lineup with a slight uptick to 16. But its engineers didn't just suggest adding a few new sleds, then calling it quits.
Your looking at 150 miles a year average or one good afternoon of riding. For a snowmobile under 4000 miles I would consider low, 5000 - 8000 medium and 10,000 and up high.

Ski-Doo motors are manufactured in Austria by Rotax. Most of the Polaris Snowmobiles use Liberty Engines which are produced in the US. Polaris is the only domestic munufacture to use American made engines since the 1970s.
