The SLR needs a mirror box to fit between the lens mount and the film or sensor. Mirrorless bodies have a big advantage when it comes to wide angle lenses, the lens design can be simpler and smaller.
As mentioned above, the cost of buying a full frame camera is significantly more expensive than a crop sensor one, plus new lenses will most likely need to be purchased. There isn't much use in changing to full frame if you are not going use high quantity lenses designed for full frame cameras.
The greater the aperture (relative) size, the more lenses are needed, the more exotic materials have to be used, the harder it gets to design the lens, and last but not least, the production tolerances tend to get tighter too. (That would be for any given resolution requirement.)
But yes, in general wide angle lenses are expensive. This is partially due to the design, and expectations placed on the lens. The extra elements required adds to the cost and makes the lens more difficult to design and manufacture.
More expensive DSLRs will often have better weatherproofing, more durable body material, better exposure metering, better sensors (more pixels or better low light performance, or higher image quality (lower noise, more dynamic range)) , faster autofocus, more Autofocus points, longer shutter life, and so on.
