Follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- In the Wireless & Networks section, touch the More item.
- Choose Mobile Networks. On some Android phones, you may have to choose Battery & Data Manager and then Data Delivery.
- Remove the check mark by the Data Roaming option.
Starting with the simplest solution, it's possible that during an update, or simply in the phone's default settings, the network mode (3G, 4G, etc.) of your phone is set to one that doesn't offer optimal coverage. Go to “Settings -> Mobile data -> Network mode,” then switch to the one that best suits your phone.
Activating roaming.
- Go to Planet 3 or your Three App.
- Select My3 Account.
- Select Phone settings.
- You'll find the information under Using your phone abroad.

- Tap the Apps icon on the home screen or slide down from the top of the screen.
- Tap the Settings/Gear icon.
- Tap Connections.
- Tap Mobile networks. Note: If you are running Android 8 or higher, tap Roaming.
- Make sure Data roaming is enabled.
Device TroubleshootingGo to your phones call settings and disable fixed dialing setting. Disable call barring setting. Check Caller ID setting and make sure it is set to Show/Enabled. Check if you are using correct dialing procedure.
To do this, head to Settings>Mobile Data>Mobile Data Options> Voice & Data, and tap 3G. That should do it, but you may need to toggle Airplane Mode (tap the little airplane symbol in Control Center) to force your iPhone or iPad to reconnect. That's it. It's just that roaming phones can't connect to 4G.
The problem is the wrong data tariff on your account. Whilst abroad, you can change your apn to "mobile.o2.co.uk" which will enable data abroad but will be wrong for the UK so with the correct data tariff and an apn of "idata.o2.co.uk" it will work correctly everywhere.
After turning off mobile data, you'll still be able to make and receive phone calls and get text messages. But you won't be able to access the internet until you reconnect to a Wi-Fi network. (And, of course, if at any time you truly need mobile data, you can just turn it on, use it, then turn it back off.
There is no real difference between mobile data and data roaming except for the fact that roaming allows your phone to access internet service using another network. When you switch off mobile data, it closes the internet access to any cellular network no matter which one your phone is connected to.
