Introduced in 1996's A Game of Thrones, Roose, a Northern lord with his seat at the Dreadfort, is a retainer of Lord Eddard Stark. His family is notorious for their cruelty and custom of flaying their enemies; he frequently has himself leeched, leading him to be known as the Leech Lord across Westeros.
Last Hearth, also called the Last Hearth, is an abandoned castle in the North, formerly the seat of House Umber, a vassal house holding fealty to House Stark of Winterfell. It is located south of the Gift, east of the Kingsroad and north of the Last River.
Following the Sack of Winterfell, Ramsay and his men take Theon to the Dreadfort, where the ironborn prince is subjected to gruesome tortures.
The Dreadfort is a castle situated in the North. The Dreadfort is ill-omened as the stronghold of House Bolton, who are famed for the flayed skins of their enemies, often rumored to have been kept on display in the castle, including those of several ancient Stark kings.

Roose decided to betray Robb long ago, after the Lannisters defeated Stannis Baratheon at the Battle of the Blackwater, and was simply feigning loyalty this entire time, even as he was plotting the Starks' destruction.
Baelish brokers a marriage between Sansa and Ramsay Bolton, now the heir to the North after the death of Robb Stark. Sansa and Ramsay wed in front of the Godswood. That night, Ramsay rapes Sansa, and forces Reek to watch.
Winterfell to Castle Black is 654.5 miles: It often seems the Stark home is at the top of the North, but it is weeks from the Wall, even on a fast horse. Gendry's run to Eastwatch after the wight attack is at least 60 miles: In deep snow and freezing cold.
Cairncastle – Winterfell / Harrenhal / Moat CailinJust to the north of the Sallagh Braes in the Glens of Antrim is the town and parish of Cairncastle. The lands above Cairncastle are beautifully rugged, and were used for a number of scenes in the show.
So with this definition, "Winterfell" is the place that Winter came - appropriate given the Stark words "Winter is coming." This one is interesting because the North seems to resemble Northern England quite a lot.
According to the breakdown, Winterfell and King's Landing are 1,460 miles apart.
At the beginning of both the show and the books, Harrenhal is held by House Whent. They were the last true owners of the house, which could become important as the story moves forward. The Whents were the seventh noble house to rule Harrenhal, and they ruled the castle for three generations.
As they set to leave Luwin tells Osha to protect the two boys and then asks her to mercy-kill him. Afterward, the four leave the home of House Stark. Despite having sworn them safe passage, Ramsay Snow flippantly broke his promise, and flayed all of the ironborn alive anyway.
Deepwood Motte is the stronghold of House Glover, a vassal house holding fealty to House Stark of Winterfell. The castle is located north-west of Winterfell in the Wolfswood, near the coast of the Bay of Ice.

Following his father's failed rebellion against the Iron Throne, Theon is taken as a ward (initially hostage) to Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell. Theon takes Winterfell from Robb's brother, Bran, but eventually is betrayed by his own men, which leads to his capture by House Bolton.
Ramsay is killed by Sansa in Season 6, but sadly, Ramsay was a sign of things to come. As soon as he exited the stage, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss brought in another heavy, who is clearly meant to bring the same level of brutality and savagery.
Ramsay's father, Roose Bolton, also flayed his enemies, but even he has standards.
