Merck has Cozaar available. Rising discontinued losartan in August 2019. Teva discontinued losartan in 2018. Torrent recalled several lots of losartan tablet presentations due to an impurity found in the active pharmaceutical ingredient.
Losartan was recalled due to impurities found while testing finished products. The impurity found in these batches is N-Methylnitrosobutyric acid (NMBA). This is the third type of impurity to cause recalls of these medications. The other two are N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and N-Nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA).
These medications include the ACE inhibitors and the angiotensin II receptor blockers. Reserpine may also be harmful during pregnancy and should only be used when no other alternatives exist. Safe medications to use include methyldopa and potentially some diuretics and beta blockers, including labetalol.

Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Losartan belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). It works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Losartan is available under the following different brand names: Cozaar.
COZAAR is a prescription medicine called an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It is used: alone or with other blood pressure medicines to lower high blood pressure (hypertension).
If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure.
Losartan can increase the levels of a substance called potassium in your blood. Taking losartan with drugs that contain potassium, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes with potassium, can increase your risk of hyperkalemia (high levels of potassium).

Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited is the latest drug company to issue a recall of losartan potassium, a popular blood pressure drug that's been under scrutiny for more than a year for containing probable human carcinogens. The voluntary recall, announced by Torrent Sept.
Cough is one of the most frequent side effects associated with angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) but is not thought to be associated with losartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARA). This study compares reports of cough with losartan and three ACEIs used in general practice.
Losartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) and works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide is a "water pill" (diuretic) that causes you to make more urine, which helps your body get rid of extra salt and water.

Talk to your doctor if you want to stop taking losartan. Stopping losartan may cause your blood pressure to rise - and this can increase your chances of having a heart attack or stroke. If you're bothered by side effects, your doctor may be able to prescribe you a different blood pressure-lowering medicine.
In general, losartan causes fewer side effects than does lisinopril (losartan doesn't cause a nagging cough and has a lower risk for facial swelling). However, lisinopril may be cheaper overall.
