Silver still does a good about of damage against undead, about equal to highly smithed steel. You'd still need some fortify two-hand damage but not that much. EDIT: Okay, it's an extra 20 points to damage against undead and werewolves.
Silver is way too soft to be an effective sword. Soft metals, like early bronze swords do not retain a sharp edge easily, bend and break if hit against hard objects and will be badly notched and damaged by harder metals and alloys (a steel sword can hack through a bronze one with a bit of effort and persistence).
Silver Swords are "Especially effective against undead." and these are the notes on them: Silver weapons do an extra 20 damage per hit to werewolves, werebears, and undead, including ghosts and vampires.
You can get the Serpentine Steel and Silver sword diagrams back in White Orchard, in the crypt with the wraith and place of power. They're solid low level weapon that should at least make it easier to go out into the world and find some better stuff.
This sword can be found almost exclusively on members of the
Silver Hand, who are frequently encountered on quests for the Companions.

A
steel sword requires the
Steel Smithing perk to
create.
It can be forged at a blacksmith's forge with the following components:
- 1 x Leather Strip.
- 2 x Steel Ingot.
- 1 x Iron Ingot.
You cannot make weapons. You find unenchanted ones and then you enchant them. If you have Shivering Isles, you can take madness and amber ores to the smiths in New Sheoth and they can make madness armor and weapons for you.
Feather (Oblivion) For other uses, see Feather. Feather is an Alteration spell effect that temporarily raises the user's maximum encumbrance. The magnitude is the extra units of weight the target can carry.
The Daedric Longsword can be found inside Oblivion Gates. Daedra start to drop this weapon, once the Hero reaches a certain level. Daedric Weapons can be found in random and leveled loot by level 20.

Leveling Up. Each time you increase any of your Major Skills by a total of 10 (in any combination), you are set to level up your character. This will only happen after sleeping. Make sure you take a rest every once in a while to gain the boosts that you'll enjoy through leveling up.
The artifact Umbra is an enchanted sword obtained by slaying its wielder, as in Morrowind. Although this sword is associated with a Daedric quest, it is not considered a Daedric Artifact for the quest Blood of the Daedra or for your character's statistics page.
Instead of simply saying one is better than the other, it makes more sense to compare to whom and why the game appeals. Oblivion had, compared to Skyrim at least, a much more varied and interesting quest line-up. Now, Skyrim definitely has the better graphics. Oblivion was first released in 2006, Skyrim in 2011.
Perfect Amber and Madness Armor is obtained by being level 25+ i have a set of both and it may be the best armor in/out of the Shivering Isles. Just work until level 25 ( like Daedra and glass armor) and start saving your amber and madness ore.

Hatreds Soul is the most powerful leveled bow in the game from level 8 on. Even when uncharged, the level 19+ version is stronger than a daedric bow and much lighter. Found in Random Oblivion World 2.
Umbra is a Bosmer found in the Ayleid ruin of Vindasel, southwest of the Imperial City. It is east along the road from Clavicus Vile's Shrine, and west of Pell's Gate and the Old Bridge. When entering the ruin, head to the very back, and she can be found there.
