Coniferous trees typically do not lose their leaves in winter. Their leaves, often called “needles,” stay on the trees year round. Because of this, they are often called “evergreens.” Both types of trees are adapted to survive cold temperatures.
American basswood (Tilia americana), northernmost Tilia species, is a large, rapid-growing tree of eastern and central hardwood woodlands. Best growth is in the central part of the range on deep, moist soils; development is vigorous from sprouts as well as seed.
Broadly, trees are grouped into two primary categories: deciduous and coniferous.
Trees, like people, come in different sizes and present variants in the traits they have in common with other individuals of the same species. Every person and tree has a specific look or, in other words, a particular phenotype that results from the interaction between genetics and environment.
Stand – An aggregation of trees or other growth occupying a specific area and sufficiently uniform in species composition, size, age, arrangement, and condition as to be distinguished from the forest or other growth on adjoining areas.
One estimate put the number at around 400 billion trees worldwide based on satellite images.
Like the Saint Helena Olive tree, Wood's Cycad (Encephalartos woodii) went extinct in the wild more recently. The last known wild specimen died in 1916. It is one of the rarest plants on Earth now, cultivated only in captivity. Wood's Cycad is endemic to the oNgoye Forest of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Some of the shorter-lived trees are include palms, which can live around 50 years. The persimmon has an average lifespan of 60 years, and the black willow will probably survive for around 75 years. On the other hand, Alaska red cedar can live up to 3,500 years.

The world's rarest gem is believed to be painite. The painite is orangish or reddish brown and was first discovered in Burma in the '50s. Within the last couple of years, the source of the two original painite crystals was discovered and now a few hundred faceted stones exist.
A. Yes. Forest products companies are in the business of growing and harvesting trees, so reforestation is important to them. And logging companies pay a special fee to fund for replanting and reforestation when they buy the right to harvest a section of timber on state or national forests.

Bamboos are a group of woody perennial evergreen plants in the true grass family Poaceae. Although bamboo is a grass, many of the larger bamboos are very tree-like in appearance and they are sometimes called "bamboo trees".
The starting point for most people when identifying trees species is the leaves. There are three basic leaf types: needles, scales and broadleaf. Most evergreens have needles or scales, while most broadleaf trees are deciduous, meaning they drop their leaves when dormant.
There are two main Types of Trees based on their leaves, deciduous and evergreen;
- Deciduous trees are trees whose leaves loose their green coloring and turn orange, red or brown before they are shed at the end of the growing season, generally in autumn.
- Evergreen trees carry their leaves throughout the year.
The poet Robert Frost, didn't choose to use a maple, oak or a pine tree, he chose the hemlock tree and left all the beautiful trees to present his mood and feelings.

However, trees like all living things will eventually die. Few will die of old age. In fact, most trees die from the accumulated misfortunes of exposure to the stress of wind, disease, insects, pollution, soil erosion, soil compaction, weather and people.
We had rudimentary estimates based on satellite imaging technology, but estimates based on satellite imaging varied. The lazy estimate at the time was that there were approximately 400 billion trees on the planet--not based on particularly good or well-documented science.
Trees are all plants and carry out the life processes that all plants share. Trees may be cone-bearing plants (gymnosperms), flowering plants (angiosperms) or ferns. All the groups of plants that include trees are vascular plants. This means they have vascular tissues called xylem and phloem.
