Games are so cheap, there is still a lot of great playable games both single and co-op. If you don't own a PS1 but have games/want to buy any, all PS3 models can play PS1 discs so that's a nice bonus. Especially if you get the early model that was backwards compatible with the PS2. Yes, PS3 in 2020 is amazing.
The PS3 has better exclusive titles. Unless you're a big fan of Halo or Gears of War, PlayStation 3 simply has better Sony exclusives than the Xbox 360. I'm not a big Uncharted fan, but if you like Indiana Jones-style cinematic games, you can't do much better than the Naughty Dog's adventure franchise.
PS2 servers were online for 16 years. by that measure, PS3 should go at least to 2020.
The graphics in both systems have a huge difference and it is a good investment to buy a PS4, but if you really want to play cult classics that are only available in the PS3 then you should buy one; otherwise, PS4 is a better choice.
The only PS3 model that is completely backwards compatible is the original 20GB and 60GB launch models. Those could play 99.9% of PS1 and PS2 titles on top of the PS3 games. Currently, the latest PS3 slim models are capable of playing the PS One discs, but still lacks the specific chip for PS2 play.
Yep. I had a super slim PS3 go YLOD on me within six months of opening it. Unfortunately I had bought it so cheap compared to the standard MSRP at the time($100 vs. $219.99) that I just packed it away and figured it'd be fine once I got around to using it.

IF you want a PS3, the Slim is probably your best bet, unless you don't think the Super Slim is ugly. These two give up PS2 game compatibility, but can still play all the PS3 and PS1 games.
With the exception of the original 20GB model, the PlayStation 3 video game consoles, the PS3 Slim consoles, and the PS3 Super Slim units all include built-in 802.11g (802.11b/g) Wi-Fi wireless networking. You don't need to purchase a separate wireless game adapter to hook up a PS3 to a wireless home network.
Just think about it. It's probably been about 6 years since the last backwards-compatible fat PS3 was made. TL;DR: Not worth risking your money by buying a 6-year-old Backwards Compatible PS3 console, instead try buying a brand new PS3 and eventually a used PS2.
The biggest difference between the PS4 and PS4 Slim isn't the specs. The Slim will launch with the same internal specs as the original PS4, just with some design tweaks. Both the PS4 and PS4 Slim now also support HDR for gaming thanks to Update 4.00, so if you've got a snazzy TV you can take advantage of that.
There is no possible way to jailbreak the super slim. If you attempt to jailbreak it, you will hard brick your console, if you use modded game saves, you risk getting console and or account banned permanently.
160gb is not at all enough space. You only get about 145gb of space to work with. Lots of games require up to 8gb of space for installation. And most full retail games you download will take up 8-15gb of space.
In the United States, the PS3 Super Slim was first released as a bundled console. The 250 GB model was bundled with the Game of the Year edition of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and released on September 25, 2012; and the 500 GB model was bundled with Assassin's Creed III and released on October 30, 2012.
The PlayStation 2 (PS2) is a home video game console developed and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was first released in Japan on March 4, 2000, in North America on October 26, 2000, in Europe on November 24, 2000, and Australia on November 24, 2000.
You cannot just remove a hard drive from one PS3 and put it in another and expect all information to transfer over. You will have to format the drive. Another way, depending on what you want to save, is to backup your saved games etc to a USB hard drive and then copy them to the new PS3.
A "PS3 HDD" is a 2.5" SATA laptop drive. So yes. The problem might be fitting it into the case so that it dosent slide around.
The PS3 will not work without a hard drive, but it's also designed to format the HDD automatically for PS3 use when you put it in and start the system up. The new hard drive would be formatted once you start it up with it in the ps3.
Western Digital 500GB 2.5" Playstation 3/Playstation 4 Hard Drive (PS3 Fat, PS3 Slim, PS3 Super Slim, PS4)
On the source PS3™ system, select (Settings) > (System Settings) > [Data Transfer Utility]. Select [1. Transfer data from this system to the other PS3™ system.]. If you did not complete the preparation steps described earlier, follow the on-screen instructions to complete these steps.
There are no feature differences between the two. You can upgrade the hard drive regardless of which PS3 console you buy, generally speaking the Super Slim's hardware is cooler/safer in the long run but if you don't like the way it looks the PS3 Slim is a major upgrade to the fat variations.
