I got one F in math. Will I fail the 5th grade? No, you won't fail 5th grade.
Fifth grade curriculum can be pretty difficult. The math skills move from concrete skills easy to understand, draw, and manipulate to abstract skills that require reasoning and logic. The reading levels increase and the rigor of the reading tasks can seem very daunting at the beginning of the year.
Kids in second grade math will:
- Learn about even and odd numbers.
- Use tally marks to count by five.
- Read and make graphs.
- Write numbers in word form.
- Add two and three digit numbers.
- Subtract two and three digit numbers.
- Know the order of addition and subtraction operations.

In my classroom, I use five steps to take my 5th graders from mediocre sentence writers to five paragraph experts.
- Step 1: Write ALL. THE. TIME.
- Step 2: Stellar Sentence Writing.
- Step 3: Simple Paragraphs.
- Step 4: Expand to Five Paragraph Essays.
- Step 5: Proofread and Edit Like Pros.
The reason for all this fifth grade angst? Your child's friendships are probably rising in importance. This shift toward friends can make things alarmingly nasty if accompanied by peer group pressure, cliques, jealousy, possessiveness, and bullying.
Young girls have been programmed to assume that when someone is known as popular, they are nasty, fake, promiscuous, rich-girls. In reality, being popular means that a person is friendly with everyone they encounter. Being a friendly person leads to getting to know and becoming friends with an ample amount of people.
10 ways to instantly become more attractive
- Be real. A lot of people hide their true self by putting on false persona.
- Talk with purpose. There's something attractive about those who have a purpose with their words.
- Listen.
- Laugh.
- Smile.
- Walk with your head up.
- Look people in the eye.
- Don't complain.
How to be more popular
- Help while maintaining a high social value.
- Be the glue in your social circle.
- Be genuinely nice (but don't be a pushover)
- Be easygoing.
- Learn how to be a good listener.
- Become good at something.
- Practice positivity.
- Stop talking about people behind their backs.
Hanging out with as many different people as possible will make you a more open person and will make you look and feel more popular. If there are older kids in your neighborhood, then they can help you build your reputation, too -- being popular in the sixth grade doesn't mean only talking to sixth graders.
To become popular in elementary school, focus on being friendly and sociable to all of your classmates. Introduce yourself, say “yes” when other kids ask you to play with them, and don't be afraid to ask a classmate to hang out with you, too.
These are some factors which can lead to a natural popularity.
- Don't Try to Be Popular. It is a mistake to try and become popular.
- Think of Others more than you think of your self. People appreciate those who are considerate of others.
- Be Your self.
- Have a big Heart.
- Reduce Your Ego.
- Humour.
- Follow Your ideals quietly.
Tips
- Be genuinely kind to others.
- Never forget your old friends just to be popular.
- Ask others to hang out so that you can get to know them better.
- Be yourself!
- Stand up for the bullied ones and pull them up with you as you climb through the rankings.
- Give good advice to people who need it.
