They are more common to the waters around Cornwall. He also said he saw "no reason" why there should not be great white sharks in UK waters, as they were found in colder waters off South Africa and favoured seals - found in Cornwall - to eat.
Arguably the most dangerous shark in the UK, the Mako can grow up to 10 metres in length. When water temperatures are warmer, Mako Sharks have been spotted in UK waters, most commonly along the south coast.
SHARKS IN THE BRITISH MEDIA
Only a few sharks are potentially dangerous to humans. There have also been no unprovoked shark bites in British waters since records began in 1847.In 1959 the River Thames was declared biologically dead due to pollution. But today it is a thriving ecosystem with many species of fish and mammals including sea horse, porpoise and even sharks.
However, this species will not generally attack humans and does not seem to treat them as prey. Most modern attacks involving shortfin mako sharks are considered to have been provoked due to harassment or the shark being caught on a fishing line.
Blue sharks rarely bite humans. From 1580 up until 2013, the blue shark was implicated in only 13 biting incidents, four of which ended fatally.
A surfer was bitten in half after losing a desperate fight for his life with two Great White sharks. Yesterday they were too upset to describe his injuries, but another surfer at Left Handers Beach near the resort of Gracetown said he had been warned: 'Don't go in there, someone's been bitten in half by a shark.
Basically, there are two main reasons great whites aren't kept in captivity: it takes an insane amount of resources for the aquarium to pull; and – most importantly – the sharks die quickly outside of the oceans no matter what zookeepers do.
There are several aquariums around the world, including one in Georgia, that house whale sharks, the biggest fish in the sea. But not one has a great white shark on display. Aquariums have made dozens of attempts since the 1970s to display a captive great white shark. Most of those attempts ended with dead sharks.
In general, sharks do not eat humans
Despite their scary reputation, sharks rarely ever attack humans and would much rather feed on fish and marine mammals. Only about a dozen of the more than 300 species of sharks have been involved in attacks on humans.Shark fins are tempting targets for fishermen because they have high monetary and cultural value . They are used in a popular dish called shark fin soup, which is a symbol of status in Chinese culture. As a result, fishermen have a large incentive to gather and sell shark fins.
A better knowledge of sharks has led to more species (including the large pelagic sharks) being able to be kept for far longer. Several attempts to keep a Great White Shark in captivity have been attempted, but most specimens died or had to be released after a short time.
Shark. Sharks are a group of elasmobranch fish characterized by a cartilaginous skeleton, five to seven gill slits on the sides of the head, and pectoral fins that are not fused to the head. Modern sharks are classified within the clade Selachimorpha (or Selachii) and are the sister group to the rays.
Some sharks such as the nurse shark have spiracles that force water across their gills allowing for stationary rest. Sharks do not sleep like humans do, but instead have active and restful periods.
Megalodon could grow up to 60 feet (18 meters) long and had a bite more powerful than that of a Tyrannosaurus rex. The sea monsters terrorized the oceans from about 16 million to 2 million years ago.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium remains the only aquarium in the world to successfully display a white shark.

An aquarium is a water-filled tank in which fish swim about. Small aquariums are kept in the home by hobbyists. This kind of aquarium is a building with fish and other aquatic animals in large tanks. A large aquarium may have otters, turtles, dolphins, sharks and whales. Most aquarium tanks also have plants.
