Stand By Me was one of the first (and only) movies that show the real inner workings of a young boy. Because, shock horror, boys have real emotions too. With the media always telling boys to 'toughen up,' this film brings to light the raw and sometimes heartbreaking emotions that we all go through.

Stand By Me. The only single to be issued from John Lennon's 1975 album Rock 'N' Roll, Stand By Me was a cover version of Ben E King's 1961 classic. When the song was taped during the Rock 'N' Roll sessions, it wasn't the first time Lennon had performed it in the studio.
Stand By Me is a classic, but if you were born in the early/mid 80's and played even a little bit of baseball -- The Sandlot grew on you. Never seen Sandlot.

Gordie, Chris and Teddy learn from Vern that Ray Brower's dead body has been found, apparently killed after being struck by a train. Ray Brower was a young boy whose death and subsequent police search created a big news story in Castle Rock.
During the filming of Stand By Me, Corey Feldman walked in on River Phoenix smoking dope and getting high. Feldman had been smoking it also. The boys aren't smoking real cigarettes in the film. They were actually lettuce leaves, being that Rob Reiner was and still is, a staunch anti-smoker.
Gordie and the others decide to go find the body and accept recognition as local heroes. Come morning, Gordie goes to fetch his canteen in his older brother's room. A few months prior his brother, Denny (John Cusack), a popular athlete, died in a car accident.
The present-day Gordie explains that Chris later went to college and became a lawyer. When attempting to break up a fight in a restaurant, he was stabbed to death. Gordie ends his story with the following words: "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve.
The movie was originally titled "The Body," after the Stephen King story it was based on. Reiner came up with the title "Stand by Me" based on the Ben E. King standard that he'd picked to play out over the end of the film.
Ace lived most of his life in Castle Rock, Maine (except in Stand By Me, in which Castle Rock is located in Oregon). After being released, Ace eventually made his way back to Castle Rock. He died there in 1991.
In Stand by Me, four boys in 1959 Castle Rock, Oregon, go on a hike to find the dead body of a missing boy. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and two Golden Globe Awards: one for Best Drama Motion Picture and one for Best Director.
The boys' coming-of-age is symbolised by the journey they go on to find the dead body of Ray Brower. They escape the boundaries of their safe, stable lives in Castle Rock and head into the wild, ready for a confrontation with death. Along the way their youthful ignorance is hilariously exposed.
Parents need to know that despite its high nostalgia factor and preteen stars, Stand by Me should by no means be considered a children's movie. Kids and teens also smoke and drink, and a dead body is shown.
Teens smoke too (both are set in the 50's though). Teens are shown drinking and driving in one scene. My Suggested MPAA Rating: R for language, smoking, and brief violence~all involving preteens and teenagers.
What makes Stand By Me so amazing is the performance from all four of the boys in the movie. There is serious on-screen chemistry between all four of the young guys in the film. You'll laugh with them, cry with them, and relate to their messing around with each other.
Stand by Me is a 1986 film about a writer's recounting of a boyhood journey to find the dead body of a missing local boy. Directed by Rob Reiner and written by Raynold Gideon and Bruce A.
This movie just sucks you in as soon as you start watching it. It's not overly mushy and sad, but it's not so tough that only a sixteen year old boy could stand it. You feel for each character, no matter how mean or nice they are.
