WiMAX is a telecommunication and mobie technology used for broadcasting of wireless data by the use of a number of transmission methods. WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access offering internet access point to point or point to multipoint or path. The WiMAX network is just like a cell phone.

WiMax uses licensed or unlicensed spectrum to deliver connection to network. WiMax handle a larger inter-operable network. WiMax can be used to provide internet services such as mobile data and WiFi spots. Wifi is defined under IEEE 802.11x standards where x stands for various WiFi versions.
Range. Wi-Fi typically provides local network access for a few hundred feet with the speed of up to 54 Mbps, a single WiMAX antenna is expected to have a range of up to 40 miles with the speed of 70 Mbps or more. As such, WiMAX can bring the underlying Internet connection needed to service local Wi-Fi networks.

Along with a competing standard called "LTE," WiMax, short for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, represents 4G or the "fourth generation" of wireless Internet. The new technology is similar to Wi-Fi in that it allows users to connect to the Internet without wires.

One difference between LTE and WiMAX is that they function on different frequencies, making their deployment slightly different. WiMAX is made to work with new deployments, while LTE is made for existing mobile and broadband deployments. WiMAX is meant more for new deployments and networks.
802.11 and 802.11x refers to a family of specifications developed by the IEEE for wireless LAN (WLAN) technology. 802.11 — applies to wireless LANs and provides 1 or 2 Mbps transmission in the 2.4 GHz band using either frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) or direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS).
The world's first publicly available LTE service was opened in the two Scandinavian capitals, Stockholm (Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks systems) and Oslo (a Huawei system) on December 14, 2009, and branded 4G. The user terminals were manufactured by Samsung.
WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) technology, can provide a speed of up to 37 mbps. It is being deployed in Kerala with 900 BTS (Base Transmitting Stations) to cover the entire state, Principal General Manager, BSNL, Ernakulam, E M Abraham said.

Sprint just made it official that they will be rolling out 4G LTE, and basically slowly backing away from their current 4G network, WiMax.
HSPA+, or Evolved High-Speed Packet Access.
HSPA or HSPA+ is a technical standard for wireless, broadband telecommunication. HSPA+ enhances the widely used WCDMA based 3G networks with higher speeds for the end user that are comparable to the newer LTE networks.The IEEE 802.16 mesh standard uses a combination of a 16-bit mesh node identifier (node ID) and a 16-bit connection identifier (CID) to identify the source and destination of every transmission. The CID in mesh mode is a combination of an 8-bit link ID and an 8-bit QoS description for the connection.
