Metropolitan Manila (often shortened as Metro Manila; Filipino: Kalakhang Maynila), officially the National Capital Region (NCR; Filipino: Pambansang Punong Rehiyon), is the seat of government and one of three defined metropolitan areas in the Philippines.

The region as a whole is geographically divided into four districts, of which the first district is the central capital City of Manila, the second and third districts located to the east and north of the City, respectively, and the fourth district covering the remaining areas of the region south of the City and the
Santa Mesa is now a part of the 6th congressional district of Manila, while Sampaloc is the sole district comprising

Sharing a border to the northeast is Rizal Province, which is part of Calabarzon Region. Also from Calabarzon Region are the provinces of Cavite and Laguna which are to the south of the National Capital Region. To the east and the west you have water, Laguna de Bay and Manila Bay respectively.

The city is divided into 897 barangays. Each barangay has its own chairperson and 7 councilors. For administrative convenience, all the barangays in Manila are grouped into 100 zones and which are further grouped into 16 administrative districts.

Lucena City, the provincial capital, is about 137 kilometers southeast of Manila via the Maharlika Highway. The total land area of Quezon is 870,660 hectares or 8,706.60 square kilometers, representing the largest land area share in the region (53.21%) and the sixth largest in the Philippines (2.65%).
