The hottest day of the year is July 24, with an average high of 75°F and low of 55°F. The cold season lasts for 3.5 months, from November 17 to March 2, with an average daily high temperature below 31°F. The coldest day of the year is January 1, with an average low of 6°F and high of 20°F.
The lowest overall temperature ever recorded in Edmonton was −49.4 °C (−56.9 °F), on January 19 and 21, 1886.
Warnings and Dangers in Edmonton: Safety in Edmonton
The fact is that cities often have crime, homelessness and drug problems. However, many of the reports of problems in Edmonton are exaggerated, and both travelers and residents of the city maintain that overall it is a safe city.Edmonton endures very cold winters, with quite a long snow season. Snow depths of greater than 1 cm are seen on about 141 days each year in Edmonton compared with about 10 days each year in Vancouver, 35 days in Penticton, 65 days in Toronto, 88 days in Calgary, and 120 days in Ottawa.

The most recent census showed 115,000 Muslims in Alberta, about 3.2 per cent of the population—in line with the national average. There are just over one million Muslims living in Canada today.
The majority of Albertans are Christian, with about 60 per cent identifying with a Christian denomination in the 2011 census. In the same year, the largest non-Christian groups were Muslim (three per cent of the population), Sikh (one per cent), Buddhist (one per cent) and Hindu (one per cent).
Life In Alberta. Situated in western Canada and one of 3 beautiful Prairie Provinces, Alberta is one of the largest areas, at 661,848 km² with an ever-growing population of over 4 million people. Most of the population live in only two major cities: Calgary, and the capital city of Edmonton.
Climate. Alberta has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Arctic air masses in the winter produce extreme minimum temperatures varying from −54 °C (−65 °F) in northern Alberta to −46 °C (−51 °F) in southern Alberta, although temperatures at these extremes are rare.
Ontario, the country's most populous province, is a manufacturing and trade locus with extensive linkages to the northeastern and midwestern United States.

The number of seniors living in Alberta is expected to more than double by 2041, the year the province's population is set to reach 6.2 million. According to the population projection released by the government this week, people aged 65 and up will make up roughly 19 per cent of the total population by that year.
The latest data from Statistics Canada indicates that the number of census families in Alberta has gradually increased from 787,000 in 1999 to 977,000 in 2009; the growth rate has moderated from 2.4% to 2.1% during the same period (Figure 1)1.
In 2017, less than 54,000 babies were born in the province — a four per cent decline from the previous year. According to ATB's The Owl publication, the number of babies born in Alberta peaked in 2015. That year, the province welcomed nearly 57,000 babies.
The remainder of the provincial population (656,048 people, 16.1%) lived in areas that would be classified as rural using the stated definition. Alberta is one of Canada's most urban provinces Alberta continues to urbanize, with 83.6% of its population living in urban settings in 2016, up slightly from 83.1% in 2011.
Southern Alberta. Southern Alberta is a region located in the Canadian province of Alberta. In 2004, the region's population was approximately 272,017. The primary cities are Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.
By 2001, the Islamic community in Canada had grown to more than 579,000. Estimates for the Census 2006 pointed to a figure of 800,000. As of May 2013, Muslims account for 3.2% of the total population, with a total of over a million, and Islam has become the fastest growing religion in Canada.
If Edmonton continues growing at this pace, it will top one million people in 2018 — a milestone Calgary surpassed in the 2007 population count. It's been the most populous Alberta city since the 1970s, although Edmonton has much larger municipalities like St. Albert and Stratcona County.
Calgary is the largest city with an estimated population of 1.1 million and a metropolitan population of 1.21 million. As the second-largest city in Alberta and the fifth-largest metropolitan area in the country, Edmonton has a population of 815,000 in 2014. The Edmonton CMA has a population of 1.16 million.
The 2019 Census has found Edmonton's population now sits at 972,223. The city is projected to reach one million by the end of 2020. The results were calculated as of April 1, which means the city has grown at a rate of 2.6 per cent per year since the last census in 2016.
Incorporated as a town in 1892 with a population of 700 and then as a city in 1904 with a population of 8,350, Edmonton became the capital of Alberta when the province was formed a year later, on September 1, 1905. In November 1905, the Canadian Northern Railway (CNR) arrived in Edmonton, accelerating growth.
Because most of Alberta's oil reserves were concentrated in central and northern Alberta, Edmonton became home to most of Alberta's oil industry. The subsequent oil boom gave Edmonton new status as the "Oil Capital of Canada," and during the 1950s, the city increased in population from 149,000 to 269,000.
