The most powerful tank of World War II, a single 67-ton Tiger II could hold up a dozen Sherman tanks, and often did. It could knock out with ease any Allied tank at considerable range, and its armor was so thick (1.58 inches to 7.09 inches) that few British or American weapons could destroy it.
Luftwaffe legend Hans-Ulrich Rudel claimed to have destroyed 519 Soviet tanks, most of them while piloting a cannon-armed Junkers Ju-87G Panzerknäcker, or “tankbuster.” Aleksandr Yefimov, said to have destroyed 126 German tanks while flying the Ilyushin Il-2 Sturmovik, was twice made a Hero of the Soviet Union.

Panzer, German in full Panzerkampfwagen, series of battle tanks fielded by the German army in the 1930s and '40s. The six tanks in the series constituted virtually all of Germany's tank production from 1934 until the end of World War II in 1945.
T-34 variants were widely exported after World War II, and as recently as 2018 more than 130 were still in service.
