Dire wolves once walked the land of the New World, but they are now extinct. Known as Canis dirus, dire wolves lived during the Pleistocene, about 250,000 to 10,000 years ago, and are close relatives of modern canids like the gray wolf. Now paleontologists had scads of dire wolves to examine.

Hyenas, even at the same weight, are stronger, faster, and more durable, intelligent, and endurant than wolves. Only advantage that wolves have is agility, but that won't do much. Doesn't help that hyenas are larger. One on one, the wolf is absolutely no match for the hyena and gets demolished.

In reality, the risk of wolves attacking or killing people is low. Wolves typically avoid people, buildings, and roads and encounters are rare. Another 12 cases involved aggression by known or suspected rabid wolves. In North America, there are no documented accounts of humans killed by wild wolves between 1900-2000.
In the wild, each wolf pack is actually made up of multiple nuclear families. Wolves are animals that mate for life and typically male and female wolves stay together for life, although they have to rebound quickly if their mate passes away.
Males were more likely than females to chase rival packs and gray-colored wolves were more aggressive than black-colored wolves. This difference in behavior suggests male and female wolves may have different strategies and motivations during inter-pack aggressive interactions related to gray wolf mating systems.
While some wolf hybrids are docile and non-aggressive, a higher percentage of wolf hybrids are likely to be dangerous and prone to attack humans and other animals. In fact, dog bite statistics show that wolf-dogs hold the sixth position in dog bite fatalities by breed.
Some of them may surprise you! According to a DNA study of 85 domestic dog breeds performed by members of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, published by National Geographic, the Shiba Inu and chow chow are the two breeds most closely related to wolves.

Although wolf-like in appearance, huskies are no more closely related to wolves than poodles and bulldogs are. While they're all dogs, some huskies may be crossed with wolves, producing a wolf hybrid. That's an entirely different animal from a purebred Siberian husky or its cousin, the Alaskan Malamute.
