The major protocols that have been used or are being used for video conferencing are the H. 323 protocol and the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). The session parameters and control of incoming and outgoing signals is done at this layer.

Headset maker Plantronics made a major move on March 28th, 2018 when it announced it was buying Polycom for $U.S. 2 billion, the same price that Siris Capital paid when it bought Polycom in 2016.
