The Vietnamese people or Kinh people (Vietnamese: ngư?i Kinh/???) are a Southeast Asian ethnic group originally native to modern-day Northern Vietnam and South China. The native language is Vietnamese, the most widely spoken Austroasiatic language.
Vietnam is famous for its bustling Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh cities and Instagram-worthy tourist destinations like Ha Long Bay, the Mekong Delta, and Da Nang. Vietnam is also famous for the Vietnam War, historical cities, and its French-colonial architecture.
The Vietnam War pitted communist North Vietnam and the Viet Cong against South Vietnam and the United States. The war ended when U.S. forces withdrew in 1973 and Vietnam unified under Communist control two years later.
