Re: Non Direct Debit FeeIt's not reasonable to be charged for not using something. The offering of a fee free method of payment by telcos is a requirement by law, choosing not to use it costs nothing so there's no expense for Optus to claim that justifies the fee.
Direct billing means all apps, in-app purchases, music, eBooks and movies or TV Shows purchased through Google Play are added to your monthly Optus bill, instead of tied directly to a debit or credit card. This is a neat way of combining all your phone-related costs in to one bill.
If you are simply getting a "summary" in that your bill shows "30 SMS messages" sent, this is most likely related to the migration of customers to a newer better billing platform. If you would rather see the list of numbers you sent to, contact Optus via Chat or Phone to have detailed billing activated.
Smartphone line access fees are monthly charges levied by your cellular provider that allow you to access their network. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), companies can charge these fees to recover the costs incurred by providing access to their networks to make and receive calls.
Optus are the same as all other telcos. They charge you one month in advance so your first bill is always 1 full month + up to 1 month depending on when you signed up.
You can bring your own phone to Optus or add a new phone. You can even build your own SIM plan.
How to OptusPay
- Select a device. Step.
- Choose your payment term. Step.
- Add an eligible SIM.
- Pay it off interest free with OptusPay.
Can I pay off my Device Plan early? Yes. This will reduce the amount you pay for your Device Plan every month, but it won't reduce the overall term.
All Optus contracts roll over to a month to month contract automatically (with usually the same terms, although more recently bonus data can now be removed if it only applies for the contract period.) When the contract ends you've paid off the phone but the $0 means the plan rate doesn't change.
There are no plan cancellation fees. You will simply need to pay out the full remaining cost of your device, which will include any monthly device credit that Optus was going to cover. Plus all charges incurred up until the date of cancellation.
Your trade-in is eligible if it is unlocked, deactivated, good working condition and undamaged, order and cleared of all personal data. You must also own your trade-in phone.
You can either buy a new device outright or pay it off interest-free over 12, 24, or 36 months on a device payment plan. Alternatively, you can choose to bring your own compatible device.
