A Rare Breed of African OriginThe domesticated Guinea Fowl originated from one of several wild species on what used to be called the Guinea Coast (hence the name) of West Africa.
Description. The term "colt" only describes young male horses and is not to be confused with foal, which is a horse of either sex less than one year of age. Another common type of guinea fowl is the Crested Guinea Fowl. These birds are typically regarded as the most aggressive type of guinea. They will chase people down indiscriminately -attacking even their owners. These birds are identifiable by curly mops on the tops of their heads.

Domestic guineafowl, sometimes called pintade, pearl hen, or gleany, is poultry originating from Africa. They are the domesticated form of the helmeted guineafowl (Numida meleagris) and are related to other game birds such as the pheasants, turkeys and partridges.
With short, rounded wings and a short tail, it looks oval shaped. Their beak is short but curved and very stout. The wattles on the male are larger than the female, although some do not have wattles. These birds do not reach sexual maturity until their second year making it very difficult to sex these birds.
Guinea fowl will make noisy calls when a member of their group dies. They gather around the dead member and cry out. They also become noisy when a member of the group gets lost. When such happens, the lost member will also call out to the group until they reunite.
Male Guineas can be very assertive, especially if you have roosters in your flock. The Guinea males will run off the roosters in short order. They may harass him, deprive him of food and fight constantly.
