The biggest difference between the Cricut Maker and any of the Cricut Explore machines is the cutting force. The Cricut Maker has 10X the strength and cutting force than any of the Explore family machines. The cutting force of the Cricut Explore Air 2 is 400 grams and the Cricut Maker's cutting force is 4000 grams.
If your Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore machine is tearing or dragging through the material, check the following: Make sure that you have selected the correct material setting in Design Space or that the Smart Set Dial is on the correct setting.
The Cricut Explore Deep Point blade has a steeper blade angle (60 degrees vs. 45) and harder, more durable steel. The deep cut blade and housing is recommended for cutting magnet, thin chipboard, stamp material, thick card-stock, stiffened felt, foam sheets, cardboard, and other thicker materials.
With the Cricut Maker, you can cut fabric without using that stabilizer! Because it uses the rotary blade instead of the fine tip blade, you don't have the risk of the blade pulling at the fabric and messing up your cuts. The rotary blade seamlessly cuts a huge variety of different materials perfectly the first time.
The extra-deep Cricut Maker Knife Blade slices through dense materials up to 3/32” thick with unprecedented ease and safety. It's ideal for cuts of moderate detail in thicker materials. Recommended to use with Thicker Materials such as balsa wood, mat board, and chipboard.
Yes, it can! With a little bit of patience and understanding of the limitations of a Cricut Maker, you can make rubber stamps in no time at all and for a fraction of the price you'd normally purchase a stamp. Enjoy cutting your own rubber stamps!
The fine point blade was designed to make intricate cuts on a variety of thin to medium-weight materials such as cardstock, vinyl, iron-on and more. The blade has a 45-degree point and can handle most of your normal cutting needs.
Faux leather layers will cut on a mat, and the Cricut Joy Smart Glitter Iron On will cut without a mat. (If you aren't using the Joy Smart Iron On product, you can still cut the vinyl using a mat.)
You can see right away that engraving leather is hands down the winner. The debossing is present on the surface but you can really barely see the imprint. You can engrave leather with the Cricut Maker, however. The lines are really pronounced and the project came out really well.
Use the deep cut blade to build personalized wall calendars from chipboard, cut your own stamps from rubber, create wood veneer embellishments, or even make custom magnets. It can cut leather, craft foam, mat board, felt sheets, glitter cardstock, and more.
