Most lower and middle end phone only support 3/4 LTE bands. High end phones, like the iPhone, or flagships from Samsung and LG also support a lot of bands. Samsung S7: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 18, 19, 20, 29, 30 and the S8 has 22/24 of them.
4G LTE offers fast download speeds, up to 50% faster speeds than 3G.
4G LTE
- Band 2 (1900 MHz)
- Band 5 (850 MHz)
- Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz)
- Band 66 (Extension of band 4 on 1700/2100 MHz).

The frequency bands for 5G networks come in two sets. Frequency range 1 (FR1) is from 450 MHz to 6 GHz, which includes the LTE frequency range. Frequency range 2 (FR2) is from 24.25 GHz to 52.6 GHz. The sub-6 GHz range is the name for FR1 and the mmWave spectrum is the name for FR2.
AT&T uses "4G" to indicate the HSPA+ network, which is older and slower than LTE. It was kind of a sales gimmick that enabled them to say their verison of the iPhone 4S, unlike their competitors, was "4G capable".
5G Ultra Wideband, Verizon's millimeter wavelength (mmWave)-based 5G, operates at frequencies of about 28 GHz and 39GHz. This is considerably higher than 4G networks, which use about 700 MHz-2500 MHz frequency to transfer information.
3G Vs 4G
| 3G | 4G |
|---|
| Frequency Band | 1.8 - 2.5 GHz | 2 - 8 GHz |
| Bandwidth | 5-20 MHz | 5-20 MHz |
| Data rate | Up to 2Mbps ( 384 kbps WAN) | Up to 20 Mbps or more |
| Access | Wideband CDMA | Multi-carrier - CDMA or OFDM(TDMA) |
The 802.11 standard provides several distinct radio frequency ranges for use in Wi-Fi communications: 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 3.6 GHz, 4.9 GHz, 5 GHz, 5.9 GHz, 6 GHz and 60 GHz bands. Each range is divided into a multitude of channels.
The 800 MHz band was initially used for expediting the service delivery of the wireline operators. The CDMA technology operating in the 800 MHz band came as a rescue for connecting the last mile. It prevented the operators from digging trenches and saved considerable cost and time.
Frequency Bands and Applications
| Frequency Band Name | Acronym | Frequency Range |
|---|
| Medium Frequency | MF | 300 to 3000 kHz |
| High Frequency | HF | 3 to 30 MHz |
| Very High Frequency | VHF | 30 to 300 MHz |
| Ultra High Frequency | UHF | 300 to 3000 MHz |
Visible uses LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 13 and 66. The only difference might be band 66 - not sure if the Verizon Note 8 had it. It won't make a difference in coverage since it's an extension of band 4 but could make a slight difference in capacity.
Cell phones emit radiation in the radiofrequency region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Second-, third-, and fourth-generation cell phones (2G, 3G, 4G) emit radiofrequency in the frequency range of 0.7–2.7 GHz. The human body does absorb energy from devices that emit radiofrequency radiation.
AWS-1 is comprised of the bands 1710 to 1755 MHz and 2110 to 2155 MHz and was previously auctioned. AWS-3 is comprised of the bands 1755 to 1780 MHz and 2155 to 2180 MHz.

Sprint buys US Cellular spectrum and half a million Midwest customers for $480 million.
UScellular is unable to unlock devices from other carriers and your device must be unlocked prior to activation on the UScellular network. Yes, you can keep your existing phone number when bringing your own device to UScellular.
Verizon Wireless will serve acquired U.S. Cellular customers using the existing U.S. Cellular brand name until the network integration and upgrade to 4G LTE is complete, expected to be in mid-2014.
For Android users: Go to Settings ➤ System ➤ About Phone. Click on Status to look for an MEID, ESN, or IMEI number. If the device has MEID or ESN numbers, it's a CDMA phone.
The Quality of the Call. The call quality of both nationwide networks heavily depends on the network coverage. GSM users can experience better voice quality than CDMA users or vice versa in particular areas. In addition to the network congestion, CDMA call quality tends to be better than GSM.
How to Unlock a U.S. Cellular Phone. U.S. Cellular's unlocking policy says that iPhones must be active for 120 days, after which they will automatically unlock. All of its other 4G LTE phones launched after February 2016 are sold unlocked.
The term "CDMA-less device" refers to a 3GPP Type 3 (LTE-centric device with 3GPP legacy modes with GSM voice fallback) or 3GPP Type 4 (LTE-only device with GSM voice fallback) device. Exactly the same issue arose with the OnePlus 6T on Verizon, and its successors from the seventh series.
The term “GSM†stands for “grams per square meter.†For this standard, the weight of various types of paper is measured from a sample sheet cut to one square meter in size. For example, paper with a weight of 55 gsm will be much, much lighter and thinner than paper weighing 400 gsm.
U.S. Cellular is founded as a cellular service subsidiary of TDS.

4G LTE is short for “fourth generation long-term evolution.†So it's actually two terms combined. And “long-term evolution,†or “LTE,†is industry jargon used to describe the particular type of 4G that delivers the fastest mobile internet experience.
Our 4G LTE network is composed of the following bands: 700 MHz: Bands 12/17/29. 850 MHz: Band 5. 1900 MHz: Band 2.
