Costco is headquartered in Washington state in the United States and opened its first warehouse in Seattle in 1983. Today, the company is the second largest retailer in the world, behind only Walmart. In 2019, the company had net sales of over 149.35 billion U.S. dollars and a brand value of over 17 billion.
When asked about specific grocery stores they frequent, Walmart was the most popular store to buy food and beverages among Canadians.

It was bound to happen sooner than later: Amazon has surpassed Walmart as the biggest retailer on the planet. On this yardstick, it has long trounced Walmart, which lags behind with a market cap of less than $300 billion.
Costco is the smallest company among the three. And that makes it easier to grow its revenues, especially when compared to Walmart, which is three times bigger than Costco. A smaller size allows Costco to better serve its customers.

Aldi has more than 1,800 stores in 35 states and is focused on growing in the Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic, Florida and California. It's on track to become America's third largest supermarket chain behind Walmart and Kroger, with 2,500 stores by the end of 2022. Aldi has even encroached on Walmart's turf— literally.
