Vatican II was a monumental task. It took four years of preparations and four sessions of debates over three years, between 1962 to 1965. Almost 3000 bishops, cardinals, heads of religious orders and theologians from all over the world participated in the council.

The Young Pope's Silvio Orlando on His Mischievous Role and Fake Moles. Of all of the actors on HBO's new love-it-or-hate-it religious drama The Young Pope, perhaps none have been met with such unexpected fanfare as seasoned Italian actor Silvio Orlando.
Benedict XVI's decision to step down as leader of the Catholic Church made him the first pope to relinquish the office since Gregory XII in 1415 (who did so in order to end the Western Schism) and the first to do so on his own initiative since Celestine V in 1294.
