Subaru has named its upcoming rear-drive sports car the BRZ—the company says it stands for “Boxer engine, Rear-wheel drive, and Zenithâ€â€”and announced that production will start in the spring of 2012. The car, of course, was created in collaboration with Toyota, who will release it here under the Scion banner.

The redesigned BRZ has more horsepower and torque, but it still doesn't have a turbo. Here's why Subaru stuck with natural aspiration on the affordable sports car.
The Limited Edition BRZ tS comes with STI-tuned front and rear suspension with Brembo brakes, a new Ceramic White exterior color with cherry red accents and BRZ tS badging, and inside gets black leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrasting red stitching.
The 2022 BRZ will be offered in both Premium and Limited trims and is available with two transmission choices; a standard six-speed manual or an available six-speed automatic with a new Sport mode designed for more aggressive driving.
So why isn't the BRZ engine turbocharged as well? One reason why the BRZ is better off without a turbocharger, according to Fenske, is gearing. The naturally aspirated engine has a higher redline (7,500 rpm) than the turbocharged engine (6,000 rpm), allowing for more aggressive gearing.
Overall the Subaru Brz reliability is 57.15 and that makes it very reliable. The chart below illustrates exactly how this ranks compared to some other cars, but the average overall rating is 57 as some comparison.
#2 · Aug 23, 2013. Your BRZ has an issue. It sounds like it when into "limp mode" or fail safe mode. Essentially the ECU detected an engine condition and the limp mode prevents you from damaging the engine or exhaust system.
The 2022 Subaru BRZ starts at $27,995, which is about $1,000 less than the 2020 model (there was no 2021 Subaru BRZ). That's the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of a 2022 Subaru BRZ Premium with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Subaru finally fixed that annoying torque dip for the second-generation BRZ. Subaru introduced the second-generation BRZ for 2022. The big issue was that the boxer engine suffered from a big torque dip between 3.000 to 4,500 rpm. That's where torque should come to life in naturally aspirated engines.
For the best performance and a longer estimated engine life, the Subaru BRZ should be filled with a 91 octane fuel rating and a level of 93 octane fuel is actually recommended for the best in performance and efficiency.
These engines can easily make it past 300k miles with proper maintenance.
Under the hood of the new BRZ is a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter flat-four-cylinder, otherwise known as a "boxer" engine. It generates 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Power is still routed to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
“TORQUE DIPâ€. This terrible spot in the rev band around 4000rpm is where the car's stock torque curve just falls on its face faster than a dog with no legs.
Simply put, granny shifting is when you upshift or downshift through the gears of a manual transmission normally. This means that there's not rev-matching or double clutching happening through your shifts, which also means that the car will likely bog when you downshift.
Actually the purpose of the taller shift knob is to keep your hand on the steering wheel longer. Most people don't take this into account but your shift begins when you remove your hand from the wheel and ends when you put your hand back on the wheel.
Brutal gear changes will damage the gearbox. A short shifter has no effect on that. The failure mode that short shifters can cause is due to the extra load that they place on the syncro's. This is due to the fact that due to the quicker shifting time, the syncro's have less time to match the gear speeds.
A short shifter can cost anywhere from $30 - $150 USD with all the bits and pieces needed to be installed in your car.
If you can shift without moving ur elbow, then you have a short shifter. If you have to move your elbow, then you don't.
As the name implies, a short shifter has shorter throws than the stock one. Your hand travels less, which speeds up shifts and makes it easier to keep your engine revs high for maximum power. Additionally, it means you spend less time with just one hand on the wheel.
Yes. Power shifting puts extensive stress on the little synchronizer rings that live inside your transmission and the jerking motion will quickly disintegrate the engine mounts, not to mention the loading of unnecessary stress on your entire drivetrain.
A quickshifter (or quick shifter) is a device that eliminates the need to use the clutch or throttle when shifting gears on a manual transmission.
