Tremblay was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on October 5, 2006. He was raised in the nearby city of Langley, British Columbia. His father, Jason Tremblay, is a police detective, and his mother, Christina Candia Tremblay, is a homemaker. Tremblay's older sister Emma and younger sister Erica are also actors.
Donoghue conceived the story after hearing about five-year-old Felix in the Fritzl case, and a 2008 court case in which a Pennsylvania woman held her children captive for eight years in a small room similar to the one in the novel.

When preparing for her role as a woman held prisoner in a shed in the film Room, Brie Larson decided to isolate herself from the outside world. As well as meeting psychologists to gain insight into the trauma of captivity, Larson wrote three diaries as Ma aged 10, 14 and 17 to help her get into character.

Filming. Principal photography lasted four months. Shooting mainly took place on the Birns & Sawyer soundstage in Los Angeles, with some second unit shooting in San Francisco, California. The many rooftop sequences were shot on the soundstage, and exteriors of San Francisco were greenscreened in.
But should you decide you need to watch Tommy Wiseau's opus before checking out the story of its creation, you may find yourself with a very 2017 problem: The Room isn't streaming anywhere. Not Netflix, not Amazon, not Hulu, not HBO, and certainly not FilmStruck.
