K9 Advantix II Flea Control for Dogs 21-55 Pounds (6 Applications) ADVANTIX KILLED MY DOG!! Although I have used Advantage safely for years, Bayer has added a toxic pesticide Permethrin, to it's formula to market the once flea only product for ticks also
Evenly apply the entire contents of the K9 Advantix®II tube to two to three spots on the top of the back from the shoulder to the base of the tail. At each spot, part the hair until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and gently squeeze to expel a portion of the solution on the skin.
Both versions are effective, but while the original K9 Advantix will kill fleas, it won't do anything about the eggs that they may have produced before the insecticide application. Advantix II prevents fleas from maturing, therefore preventing them from laying eggs. No more eggs means no more fleas.
A single application lasts for up to four weeks. Advantage gets to work quickly after application, it can start killing fleas within hours, and fleas will be killed within one day following treatment.
Imidacloprid kills fleas within 24 hours. Along with imidacloprid, Seresto flea and tick control collar also contains flumethrin, which repels and kills ticks. The collar works for up to eight months, providing the longest-lasting flea and tick protection in a single application.
However, only Advantix repels fleas and ticks, whereas Frontline does not. So Frontline fights on the one front of killing parasites already on the dog, Advantix does this too but can also prevent parasites from ever getting onto your dog in the first place. Therefore, Advantix has the edge here.
Advantix kills fleas in all stages of life, including eggs, larvae, and pupae, making it an expert in preventing infestations. NexGard, however, prevents and kills only fleas and ticks though it has proven to kill black-legged ticks before they can transmit Lyme disease.
Imidacloprid, marketed under the brand name Advantage and Advantix, doesn't enter the bloodstream when you put it on your pet's skin. Instead, it spreads throughout the skin, including the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. Imidacloprid is absorbed into the insect's body, poisoning the fleas.
Nexgard protects your dog from fleas and ticks mainly, but other pests you'll need other preventatives. Advantix protects your dog from a host of external parasites including mosquitos, biting flies, and lice. If your dog is outside in areas with many different biting insects, this is a better option.
The main difference that you need to be aware of is that Advantage have formulas which have been approved for use in both cats and dogs while Advantix is only suitable for use in dogs. If you give Advantix to a cat by accident, it causes permethrin toxicity, an emergency condition which requires a trip to the vet.
Generally safe to use on dogs who are more than 7 weeks old, Advantix can cause skin irritations, such as burning or tingling sensations, in animals or humans when the medication comes in contact with their skin. Removing the chemicals from the skin quickly helps reduce further discomfort and negative reactions.
The company's website states the product will be completely effective if you bathe your dog two hours after applying the insecticide. A dog using Bayer's Advantage Multi can be bathed 90 minutes after applying the medication.
Ticks already on the dog at the time of treatment will die, but remain attached and visible. Treatment with Advantix should start before the first expected exposure to ticks. "[Advantix] boasts killing and repellent activity against ticks and fleas. Advantix repels up to 98.5 per cent of ticks within two hours."
Here's a synopsis of the many reasons I heard on why they think their dog acts weird after flea treatment: Dogs hate the smell of flea treatment as it can be very strong. The flea treatment is strong enough to burn their skin a little. Some dogs simply don't like the sensation of medicine being applied.
The medication is called Bravecto. It's a dog chew so powerful that one dose can kill fleas and ticks for three months. Pharmaceutical giant Merck says it's safe and effective, but the number of dog owners who think otherwise is growing. "I believe that Bravecto killed my dog," Donna White of Buckhead told Strickland.
Can I apply K9 Advantix® II more than once a month? A single application of K9 Advantix® II remains effective for four weeks. However, if the dog has a severe infestation, retreatment within a month may be necessary. Do not retreat more than once every seven days not to exceed weekly treatments.

Advantix II has 2 ingredients — the product that kills the ticks is absorbed into the bloodstream so bathing has no effect on it after it is absorbed — usually about 24 hours —- the product that kills fleas spreads out thru the oil on the dogs skin —- if you use a regular shampoo that strips the oil from the skin you
Never use multiple flea medications on your pet, unless directed to do so by your veterinarian. Fleas can be a very frustrating problem, and some medications may not produce immediate effects.
Within just three short weeks, a single flea can infest your dog with more than 1,000 blood-sucking descendants. While uncomfortable for your dog (and your unprotected ankles), fleas can also cause anemia, allergic reactions and infections. Fleas can also transmit tapeworms.
Pet flea sprays can kill fleas, but may need to be re-applied from as often as every few days, up to every few weeks. Flea tablets work in your dog's bloodstream, which means fleas have to bite before they are exposed to the active ingredient to kill them.
