The Sharp TV brand isn't going away, but the company is shutting down its manufacturing plant and licensing the name to Hisense. Yet another TV maker is calling it quits on the hyper-competitive U.S. market, while keeping the brand name alive through licensing.
By and large, the current crop of Sharp TVs appear decent value if you pick the right one. The Roku TV access is a welcome feature and you get a lot of screen estate for your money. There are caveats, however. We'd check the TV's price tag against the price of a similar sized Samsung or LG.
With the Aquos N7000, Sharp has done a good job marrying the latest connectivity, better-than-average audio, and HDR processing with low- to mid-range display technology. A 120Hz refresh rate would be nice, but this is a good TV for the price. Buy it because it's the TV you like best in its price range.

When it comes to durability and reliability, these four brands lead the pack: Samsung, Sony, LG, and Panasonic. Let's take a closer look at why these TVs will serve you for a longer time than others.
The lifespan of flat-panel TVs is approaching 100,000 hours. The lifespan of a liquid crystal display television is longer than that of a similar-sized television.
So in the long run, the a TV left on all the time will get dimmer, sooner, than if you only watched it 4 to 6 hours a day. Reducing the backlight control (many LCDs) or turning down the contrast (plasma) may extend the TV's life some, but only to a degree.
How are you going to do it? As with all things, TVs fade with age but there are steps you can take to lengthen the life of your new investment. According to manufacturers, the lifespan of an LED TV varies between 4 and 10 years (between 40,000 and 100,000 hours), depending on usage and maintenance.
Switching off your TV when not in use will do more to reduce energy usage than anything else. Switching to standby is better than leaving your TV on, but it's still more energy-efficient to switch it off completely. Turn down the brightness of your TV.
You can leave a plasma television on for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
As long as your current TV works with your current sources, you should be fine. Really old TVs, older than 10 years, might have issues connecting to modern streaming and disc sources, but there's no real workaround for that.
LED's cannot Burn-out - there's no filament whatsoever and they must actually wear out. LED TV's are in fact LCD TV's also. They are illuminated solely by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material, and they last just as long as a standard transistor.
This will use less energy than keeping it switched on, but will still use more energy than if it were turned off completely. The main issue that can arise with leaving a TV on all the time is that the TV can overheat, which will reduce the lifespan of the TV.
