From our experience in the diesel repair and performance industry we feel that the best injector you can purchase for your 6.7L Cummins is the Genuine Bosch Injector.
I just changed injectors for the first time. I didn't time myself but it took a while. I could most likely do the job now in under 6 hours. I looked up the flat rate on this job and it allows 3.5 hrs.
- All 6.7 Cummins Injectors come with NEW O-rings and tip gaskets included. - These are pickup injectors. Cab / Chassis trucks require a different injector.
20% overs are a nice performance upgrade to increase your horsepower and requires NO tuning after installation. This 20% Over injector equates to approximately 35 HP. Your stock CP3 pump can be used with these injectors, but we would recommend installing an auxiliary lift pump.
The average cost for a Fuel Injector Replacement is between $2,515 and $3,496 but can vary from car to car.
A cummins left stock and properly maintained will last as long as you want it to, I have seen many with 300k -600k, ive seen a couple with 1 million miles.
While fuel injector problems usually give warning, driving your vehicle for a long time with a clogged or faulty fuel injector can cause problems. Increased fuel consumption. A noticeable increase in tailpipe smoke and emissions. Rough idle and hesitation during acceleration.
Signs of a Failing Diesel Fuel Pump
- Squeaks, squeals and other high-pitched sounds: If your vehicle starts squealing or making unusual, high-pitched noises, this could be a sign that your diesel fuel pump is going bad.
- Difficulty accelerating: Are you having trouble getting your vehicle up to speed quickly enough?
Fuel injectors will fail when debris (water, dirt particles, etc.) or rust find their way into the system and, after time, plug up the nozzle, the armature, or the nozzle needle gets stuck. To prevent debris from getting into the system, we recommend doing everything you can to help keep your fuel system clean.
A common characteristic of diesel engines is noise! Injector “nailing†and ignition “knock†causes most of the typical knocking and pinging in a diesel engine. Not every noise that comes from under the hood is bad—some sounds are normal.
Here are a few signs there might be something wrong with your fuel injectors.
- The Engine Misfires. Dirty fuel injectors may cause your vehicle's engine to misfire.
- Idling Gets Rough.
- Your Gas Mileage Tanks.
- The RPM Needle Starts to Dance.
- Your Car Won't Start.
Diagnosing a Clogged Fuel InjectorOne of the obvious symptoms of a clogged fuel injector is the lighting up of the "Check Engine" light in your dashboard. The fault codes usually associated with a clogged fuel injector can range from misfire codes to lean codes.
Fill the fuel tank with fuel and run the engine for 10 minutes.
- You can drive the vehicle around or just let it idle for 10 minutes.
- For convenience, you can add the fuel injector cleaner while you're at the gas pump and then fill the tank with diesel.

Valve lash refers to the clearance, generally hundredths or thousandths of an inch, between the tip of a rocker arm and the corresponding valve stem. Adjusting valve lash is necessary on engines featuring solid lifters, like the 12v Cummins, to compensate for normal wear.
Very good quality parts as well. I haven't put a lot of miles on yet to be fair however, I did have an injector tested on the Bosch machine before I installed them. Got my injectors in fast and my truck has been running good ever since!
To remove the injector use an injector removal tool or an 8 x 1.50 mm bolt. Screw the bolt into injector top gently. Use a pry bar to gently apply upward force on the bolt until the injector "pops" out. Make sure your copper washer is still on the injector when you pull it out.
You can simiulate max output for the CP3 by unplugging the FPR and fuel sensor. This forces the CP3 to put max output on the fuel rail. To do the check you will have to pull you glow plugs and watch excessive fuel from coming out the glow plug holes.
A few issues that may occur with the 6.7 Cummins turbo include:
Leaking oil seals.
Worn bearings (too much shaft play) Sticking VGT parts.
Dodge, Ram 6.7 Diesel Turbo Failure Symptoms

Working principle of a conventional fuel injector:
The needle valve is controlled precisely by a pressure-sensitive spring. It lifts off its seat while spraying the diesel into the cylinder in highly atomized or mist form. A modern-day Bosch-unit sprays the diesel at the speed of up to 2,000 km/h.
