The reason open water hunting is restricted to only a few lakes and water bodies is to provide refuge for ducks to stay on that body of water. By not allowing open water hunting on every lake it provides a refuge area where ducks can avoid hunting pressure.
Answer: They are legal to use in Wisconsin. Some other states prohibit anything electronic, so they may not be legal in some other states. But they are legal here in Wisconsin.
It's not illegal for ducks or any bird, at least where my friends and I hunt, but it is generally frowned upon. Also worth noting, if you are dispatching a wounded duck that's trying to swim away but can no longer fly it's both perfectly legal and socially acceptable to shoot it on the water.
Under federal law, you actually can't hunt waterfowl with a rifle or a pistol, so a . 22 would be a no-go.

Much of the land in Wisconsin is privately owned. Hunters can typically freely take game animals hunted on their own private property, or may seek permission from a landowner to hunt on private property. Hunters within the state may also hunt within some Managed Forest Law (MFL) and Forest Crop Law (FCL) Lands.
Even though some handguns can fire a shotshell (. 410 for example), handguns are not legal for hunting turkeys. It is illegal to use any rifle to kill a turkey in Wisconsin. It is illegal to hunt with a shotgun having a barrel length less than 18 inches or an overall length of less than 26 inches.
No. A person must still be at least age 21 to purchase a firearm which is a handgun from a firearms dealer, and age 18 to possess or hunt with a firearm which is a handgun. To use the concealed handgun for hunting purposes, the handgun must be a legal size and caliber for the species being hunted.

Here are the real facts: Coots don't eat mud. Coots are, in fact, delicious. Even when prepared by an inexperienced cook, coots are still delicious. Too bad the species has been victim to such an undeserved reputation.

Answer: Ducks just love rain. They are quite happy to stay out in it, and they often preen their feathers and poke around in puddles. (The British refer to a rainy day as “a lovely day for ducks.”) They don't even seem to mind snow or sleet, but they dislike cold and windy weather.
Yes, ducks do fly in the rain and wind. Although it may seem strange, duck hunting in the wind, fog, and rain can be a good idea. Just for the record, in lousy conditions, ducks are likely to fly to an agreeable pond and hunker down. Invest in a well-camouflaged duck boat if you are going to hunt near the water.
Loafing and RoostingOn warm, sunny days, for example, ducks and geese will loaf in open areas where they can warm themselves in the sun. At night, waterfowl often roost in more sheltered habitats where the birds can conserve body heat and save energy.
Preferred Foods: Adults favor acorns, beech nuts, berries, bald cypress cones, duckweed, sedges, wild grapes, and wild rice. Ducklings depend upon small invertebrates for the first 2 weeks. These invertebrates, including mayfly and dragon fly nymphs, are abundant in masses of aquatic plants.
Wet weather creates great duck hunting. An old-timer told me years ago he'd hunt puddle ducks during a long, steady rain but would forget about divers during similar conditions. Generally, I think that's good advice. Steady moderate to heavy rain seems to stifle diving duck movement more than puddler activity.
But here's an inconvenient truth: Ducks and geese don't always land into the wind. In fact, when the wind is light, they might approach from any direction. During those situations, you're better off ignoring the wind and heeding an obvious but oft-ignored tenet of hunting: Keeping the sun at your back.
The onset of wood duck nesting varies according to where you live in North America. In the Deep South, egg laying can begin as early as late January with many hens having more than one brood during a long season which ends in late summer.
As winds intensify, ducks move to protected areas–river backwaters, lake coves, green-timber openings, the lee side of islands. Rain and/or sleet intensifies their scramble for shelter, limiting and defining the places they are likely to be. More and more birds move into fewer and fewer areas.
