BMW's performance department, M GmbH (more commonly known simply by the letter M, which stands for Motorsport) has been around since the 1970s. Today, M produces high-performance variants of nearly every single vehicle in BMW's lineup. Let's take a walk through the M Series offerings.

According to BMW, the new performance pack adds 20 hp and 32 lb-ft of torque to an automatic 335i sedan. For drivers who have a manual transmission, the torque increase is limited to 17 lb-ft. The M Performance pack will be available on all 335i sedans, including the all-wheel-drive xDrive model.
And it's for mostly the same reason, it's a bespoke-built sports car by AMG. It isn't a Mercedes C-Class chassis with a powerful engine. And while the BMW M4 is a great car, it can't be as sharp as a car that was born to be a performance machine from the beginning.
