Yosemite is where you want to go if your goal is to see towering granite and awe-inspiring waterfalls. While there are large sequoia trees in some parts of Yosemite, they aren't as prominent. If walking (and even driving) among the giants is your end goal, head over to Sequoia National Park.
The primary difference between sequoias and redwoods is their habitat. Redwoods live near the coast, while sequoias live in subalpine regions of California. Redwoods are the tallest trees in the world. Sequoias are the biggest, if measured by circumference and volume.

Sequoias and giant redwoods are often referred to interchangeably, though they are two very different, though equally remarkable, species of tree. The best time to visit Sequoia National Park is June through August, when the weather is the most stable. The park is open 24/7, year-round, but there are certain challenges during select seasons. For example, snow chains or tires are required to safely navigate park roads during the winter months.
