The best guitar to use for sliding is one with higher action. This means you need to find a guitar that has more room between the fretboard and the strings. If you are using an electric guitar (which typically has low action), you will have better luck with a glass slide.To play with your slide, place your fretting/sliding hand over the fingerboard as you would normally. I'm fairly certain that the guitar is in the key of E minor when no capo is used, but that may be wrong. When playing some songs, the instructions for capo position aren't something like "Capo on fret 3", but, instead, "Capo: C Major" or "Key: C Major".

You can use both acoustic and electric guitars, as long as they don't have nylon strings. If you want to play much slide guitar, prepare a guitar just for this job. That means using heavier strings (no “super slinky”…) and a high action (distance of the strings to the fretboard).
Short slides should fit snug. (Ideally, so should long slides.) A short slide that has too wide an interior diameter to grab the finger tightly is hard to use. It will travel up and down as well as wiggle from side to side.
