Add total labels to stacked column chart in Excel
- Firstly, you can create a stacked column chart by selecting the data that you want to create a chart, and clicking Insert > Column, under 2-D Column to choose the stacked column.
- Then right click the Total series and select Change Series Chart Type from the right-clicking menu.
Display the Grand Total in a Pie Chart (Excel 2016)
- First, insert a text box on the chart where you want the grand total to be displayed.
- With the text box still open/active, type an equal sign (=) in the formular bar.
Add a data series to a chart on the same worksheet
- On the worksheet that contains your chart data, in the cells directly next to or below your existing source data for the chart, enter the new data series you want to add.
- Click anywhere in the chart.
- On the worksheet, drag the sizing handles to include the new data.
Pie charts are used to display the contribution of each value (slice) to a total (pie). Pie charts always use one data series. To create a pie chart of the 2017 data series, execute the following steps.
click Chart Layout>Format Selection or Menu>Format>Data Series …, on popup menu Format Data Series click Order, then click individual series and click Move Up or Move Down buttons to adjust the stacking order on the Axis for the subject series.
Right-click the data series or data label to display more data for, and then click Format Data Labels. Click Label Options and under Label Contains, select the Values From Cells checkbox.

- add a column with the totals in it.
- Insert a combo chart, using "stacked column" for all the data and "line" for the totals.
- On the chart, click on the totals line and insert the trendline you want.
- Once the trendline is inserted, re-select the totals line and change the format to "No line"
If you need to sum a column or row of numbers, let Excel do the math for you. Select a cell next to the numbers you want to sum, click AutoSum on the Home tab, press Enter, and you're done. When you click AutoSum, Excel automatically enters a formula (that uses the SUM function) to sum the numbers. Here's an example.

A 100% stacked bar chart is an Excel chart type designed to show the relative percentage of multiple data series in stacked bars, where the total (cumulative) of each stacked bar always equals 100%. Like a pie chart, a 100% stacked bar chart shows a part-to-whole relationship.
One of the most common and recognizable ways to visualize a percentage is a pie chart, of which donut charts are a variation. Stacked bar graphs are another way to show percentages.
For example, if you type the formula =10/100 in cell A2, Excel will display the result as 0.1. If you then format that decimal as a percentage, the number will be displayed as 10%, as you 'd expect.
How to Make a Stacked Area Chart in Excel
- Enter the data in a worksheet and highlight the data.
- Click the Insert tab and click Chart. Click Area and click Stacked Area.
If your calculator does not have a percent key and you want to add a percentage to a number multiply that number by 1 plus the percentage fraction. For example 25000+9% = 25000 x 1.09 = 27250. To subtract 9 percent multiply the number by 1 minus the percentage fraction.
Histograms are used to show distributions of variables while bar charts are used to compare variables. Histograms plot quantitative data with ranges of the data grouped into bins or intervals while bar charts plot categorical data.
Types of Bar ChartA bar chart can be categorized into two broad types, namely; horizontal and vertical bar charts. These groups are further subdivided into the various categories such as vertical stacked bar chart, horizontal grouped bar chart, and the like.
A typical bar graph has a label or title, x-axis, y-axis, scales or increments for the axis, and bars. Some graphs may also have a legend that specifies what various colors represent, such as in a stacked bar graph. Bar graphs are ideal for comparing two or more values, or values over time.
A simple bar chart is used to represent data involving only one variable classified on a spatial, quantitative or temporal basis. In a simple bar chart, we make bars of equal width but variable length, i.e. the magnitude of a quantity is represented by the height or length of the bars.
To properly label a graph, you should identify which variable the x-axis and y-axis each represent. Don't forget to include units of measure (called scale) so readers can understand each quantity represented by those axes. Finally, add a title to the graph, usually in the form "y-axis variable vs. x-axis variable."
If your data are arranged differently, go to Choose a bar chart. Open the dialog box. Mac: Choose Graphs > Bar Chart > Mean or other function of a continuous variable > Multiple Y variables: Clustered. PC: Choose GRAPHS > Bar Chart > Function of a variable > Multiple Y Variables: Clustered.
Steps in the Process
- Decide on a title for your graph (Pet Popularity).
- Draw the vertical and horizontal axes.
- Label the horizontal axes (Type of Pet).
- Write the names of pets where the bars will be (Parakeet, Dog, and so on).
- Label the vertical axes (Number of Students).
- Decide on the scale.
A double bar graph is used to display two sets of data on the same graph. For example, if you wanted to show the number of hours that students worked in one month compared to another month, we would use a double bar graph. The information in a double bar graph is related, and it compares one set of data to another.
But, there is a much easier way!
- Step 1 – Pick a Chart to Change.
- Step 2 – Single Click Anywhere in the Chart Area.
- Step 3 – Single Click on the Series you would like to Change.
- Step 4 – Select the New Color of Fill.
