You should never use WD40 to clean skateboard bearings . This is a product designed specifically made for removing rust and grime, not as a lubricant or cleaner for bearings. It works wonders at first, but you'll find yourself reapplying more and more as it dries out bearings.
Loose trucks are harder to skate than tight trucks. There, I said it. That's not to say that tight trucks are easier, or that loosening up the kingpin nut a few turns is going to make you lose all your tricks. I'm talking about skating them loose enough to wobble when you shake the board side to side.
Can you use Vaseline when you repack your bearings on all parts of the bike? You can, but it won't hold up like bearing grease will.
Skate bearing lube alternative
Majority of people use several oil alternatives for skate bearings. Some of my favourite skate bearing lube alternatives are lightweight motor oil (Under W30), Sewing machine oil, and baby oil. I often resort to them when there is an emergency and I run out of Bones speed cream.Remember, bearings only need to be cleaned about once every two to three months depending on the environment you are skating in. If you primarily skate inside several times a month but the surface is not cleaned often, you might have to shine up your bearings once a month.
WD-40 isn't actually a true lubricant. WD stands for "water displacing" and its main use is as a solvent or rust dissolver. The lubricant-like properties of WD-40 come not from the substance itself, but from dissolving components. WD-40 can be a good substance to start with — it can help clean up rust or other grime.
