Laminated MDF can also be cut with either a circular saw or a jig saw. Hold a metal straight edge against the cut line, and lightly run the utility knife blade over the line. Repeat this numerous times until the laminate is completely scored.
You cut particle board the same way you would any other wood-like material — with a table saw, circular saw, jigsaw, bandsaw. But table saw is the best. I would not recommend using a hand saw. Nor can you use chisels as this material is not suitable for joinery.

Only joking . as the Stanley Knife is my best tool. Plywood, by it's name has the grain reversed several times during the cut, so will be easy going with grain and harder going cross grain. Something is amiss, as it has NO difficulty going through my fingers. Exceptionally sharp blades on the genuine Stanley make.

Hardboard waterproofing has a few options: a waterproof sheeting material or an oil-based waterproof clear coat paint. The sheeting material is better for small areas of hardboard for cost efficiency and ease of application.

Steve Sisk. I've never cut chipboard with a jigsaw, but I can't imagine that the results will be very good, even if you're wrapping the edges for a game board. Typically, you will want to sand the edges slightly round for a gameboard to get the best adhesion and the least abrasion as the board is used.
A jigsaw cuts MDF as easily as it cuts plywood, although you should keep in mind that the more teeth the blade has, the less chance there is of chipping the material around the edges of the cut. You can also cut curves in MDF with a handheld multipurpose or rotary tool fitted with a multi-purpose cutting blade.
