Spotify accounts are designed so that each person has their own account. Each Spotify account can only play on one device at a time. If you are sharing an account, I suggest checking out the family plan so that you can each have your own account and both listen to music at the same time with a discounted price.
Premium for Family lets you get six separate Premium accounts (you plus up to 5 family members) with one discounted monthly subscription. You and each of your family (at the same address) you invite will enjoy: Unlimited high-quality streaming access to over 30 millions songs. Play music without internet connection.
Re: I can't search up users.
You should be able to look up profiles by entering spotify:user:[their username] into the search bar in the Spotify desktop or mobile apps. To get someone's Spotify username, you'll need to ask them to check their online profile.Re: Add people/friends without facebook accounts
If you know their username, type spotify:user:username in the search box. (Note that the username must be written in lower-case) You can simply click on a username wherever it appears.Currently, if the person trying to follow you is using the Spotify mobile app, they must be subscribed to Spotify Premium to see the "follow" button on your profile and to be able to follow you.
You should be able to look up the profiles by entering spotify:user:username into the search bar in the Spotify app. Make sure to replace username with the username of the profile that you'd like to look up.
One way to find out your username is by clicking your name at the top-right of the Spotify window and then clicking Profile from the menu to access your public profile. Whatever appears in brackets next to your real name is your Spotify username.
Plus this year, for the first time ever, you can view your Wrapped right when you log in to your Spotify app—or head to spotify.com/wrapped. Once you're in, you'll discover your top artist, top song through each season, top podcasts, genres, total minutes streamed in 2019.
You can't change your username due to the way the Spotify system maps playlists to accounts, its a bit of a pain but that is just the way it is! If you connect your account to Facebook (which you can do from the preferences) your friends will see your real name instead of your account name though!
Spotify has not implemented the Friend Activity feature on its mobile applications. In fact, many users have reached out requesting the addition of the feature on mobile.
How to follow someone on Spotify using 'Find Friends' on your phone
- Launch the Spotify app on your iPhone or Android device. If you need to, log into your account.
- On your Spotify homepage, tap the "Gear" icon, then tap "View Profile."
- On your Spotify profile, tap "Find friends," which will take you to a new page.

They will only be notified if you Follow the playlist. Your Followers can also see the playlist you're l listening in the Friend Feed. To keep this private go to your Desktop App > Preferences > Turn off 'Publish my activity on Spotify'.
Re: Friends Activity is a song behind
A song is shown in the friends feed when you have listened it entirely and not when you start listening to it. So when you start song 2, it's the previous entire songs listened that will be shown. The creator of a playlist is not notified if you play their playlist.
