Smart cards: how to apply for a smart card
- Complete the online request form.
- Upon receipt of your online request form, the EPO will process your request and forward it to the smart card supplier.
- You will receive your inactivated smart card within 20 days.
- The personal identification number (PIN) of your smart card will be sent to you separately.

The Smart card has to be placed on slot in the ATVM and user has to select the route and destination using the touch screen. After the confirming the details, the ticket is printed. Once the ticket is issued the charge is debited from the Smart card.

You can get started using your CAC by following these basic steps:
- Get a card reader.
- Install middleware, if necessary.
- Install DoD root certificates with InstallRoot (32-bit, 64-bit or Non Administrator).
- Make certificates available to your operating system and/or browser, if necessary.
CAC and Your Privacy
The CAC meets or exceeds applicable privacy laws and Geneva Convention requirements. More importantly, the data it stores can only be accessed through secure CAC applications. In fact, the information stored on a CAC cannot be accessed without: A Personal Identification Number (PIN)- Click Start.
