Make sure the Wi-Fi network is a 2.4 GHz network. The Smart Wi-Fi Light will not connect to a 5 GHz network. If your Smart Wi-Fi Light is already on the right frequency, make sure that your phone is not using a VPN app in the background.
Not all smart plugs work with all voice assistants though, so you'll need a smart speaker that works with your brand of plug (or a phone or tablet with the relevant voice assistant built in). You can use smart plugs to get all your smart devices working together, even if they're not made by the same manufacturer.
Start with Wemo Insight Smart Plug, a Wi-Fi enabled device that lets you monitor energy consumption and control your home lights and electronics from anywhere, right from your phone or tablet.

A: There is no Hub or bridge required. I set mine up using the C by GE App. However if you use the GE App you are limited to Bluetooth short range control. If you want to control these bulbs while away from home you will need a Amazon or Google device that can act as a hub.
Schedule your C by GE Smart Lights using the app on your phone or tablet to turn them on or off automatically. Control your WiZ lights with your smart virtual assistants such as Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant.
With C by GE products, you can create a scene that activates your perfect morning light, temperature, and more with one touch.
Bluetooth LightsYou will need this number for set up. Direct Connect C by GE lights are not compatible with C-Reach, therefore, they are not compatible with HomeKit.
If your C by GE Bluetooth or Direct Connect light bulbs or light strip disconnected from the C by GE app, or they're displaying as "Unable to Connect," here are some common solutions: Log out of the C by GE app and then log back in. Turn the lights off at the switch or outlet, wait 30 seconds, then turn them back on.
Android Instructions:
- Download and open the C by GE app.
- Plug in your C-Reach in the same room as your Wi-Fi router.
- On the home screen, tap the (plus +) icon.
- Select “Add New Devices.”
- Select “C-Reach”
- Select the Wi-Fi Network you want the C-Reach to connect to.
C by GE C-ReachControl your C by GE bulbs over Wi-Fi or through a voice assistant. C by GE bulbs work fine over Bluetooth without a hub, but the C-Reach allows you to control them even when you're away from home. You also gain access to voice controls through either Alexa or Google Assistant.
The GE zigbee light bulbs will work with the Smartthings hub. The Bluetooth ones are also smart bulbs, but they will not work with SmartThings. Unfortunately, the C life bulbs are Bluetooth.
Alexa will discover your C by GE devices, and now you can start controlling them! You can use the Alexa app to add them to rooms, create routines, and more.
It's possible that smart plugs may save you money. But for every place that math works out, there are probably two or three places it won't. A smart plug with a coffee maker, a lamp, or the power strip you plug all your phones and tablets into probably won't save you any money. But you'll still gain automation.
The thing about smart plugs is that they still use energy even when the appliance they're connected to is turned off. However, the energy it uses is very minimal that it won't make a significant impact on your electricity bill. A smart plug is only energy-saving when used with the right devices and when used properly.
Here are 10 awesome things that you can do with a Smart Plug:
- Turn your home into a haunted house.
- Take some stress out of Christmas – Automate your Christmas lights.
- Pinpoint energy-hungry appliances and save on your next big purchase.
- Set up for less vampire power.
- Enjoy the perfect temperature.
Smart plugs pass the same standard safety guidelines as any other device you plug into the wall. As with any electrical device, you should be safe as long as you don't overload the outlet. The biggest concern that people have had about smart plugs is vulnerability to hacking.
Most smart plugs – especially ones which are Alexa or Google Home enabled – will work when you're away from the home. However some smart plugs require a separate hub to work, whilst others require that you're connected to the same WiFi network as your smart plug.
The offline events can be caused by the router changing 2.4G channels, renewing WAN or LAN IP Addresses, or simply running out of resources while trying to clear cache and handle a lot of devices at one time.
Yes, smart plugs give you the ability to turn your TV and other devices on and off wherever you are. Smart plugs are devices that turn all your devices into smart devices.
