- Select Windows Start, then Control Panel, then Network and Sharing Center.
- Click on the down arrow to the right of Password Protected Sharing to expand it.
- Click the dot next to Turn off password protected sharing.
- Click on the Apply button.
- If prompted by User Account Control, then click on Continue.
Disable Password Protected Sharing in Windows 10

To share a printer over a network using WINDOWS XP OS:

If you're connected to a network in a public location and you decide to turn on network discovery but leave network sharing turned off, the network discovery setting will be on for every public network you connect to from then on. This wouldn't be safe. That's why we recommend using the network sharing setting instead.
Network discovery allows Windows 10 to find other computers and devices on a network. Network discovery is turned off when you're connected to public networks that shouldn't be trusted and you don't allow your PC to be discoverable on those networks.
In Windows 7/8/10, you can verify the workgroup by going to the Control Panel and then clicking on System. At the bottom, you will see the workgroup name. Basically, the key to adding XP computers to a Windows 7/8/10 homegroup is to make it part of the same workgroup as those computers.

Turn Off File Sharing

Enabling Password-Protected Sharing

Click the “Manage your credentials” option at the top left. Select the Windows Credentials type and you'll see the list of credentials you have saved for network share, remote desktop connection or mapped drive. So if you normally access the share with \SHAREfolder then just type ping SHARE and you're able to ping it. It's the same principle as pinging another workstation.
To find and access a shared folder or printer:
- Search for Network , and click to open it.
- Select Search Active Directory at the top of the window; you may need to first select the Network tab on the upper left.
- From the drop-down menu next to "Find:", select either Printers or Shared Folders.

- Accept the default of “This computer is part of a business network”.

How to Share a Folder in Windows XP
- Find the folder you want to share.
- Right-click the folder's icon.
- Choose Sharing and Security from the shortcut menu. The folder's Properties dialog box appears with the Sharing tab upfront.
- Choose the option Share the Folder On the Network.
- (Optional) Type a share name.
