When a license is removed from a user, data that is associated with that account is held for 30 days. Files saved in OneDrive for Business aren't deleted unless the user is deleted from the Microsoft 365 admin center or is removed through Active Directory synchronization.
Microsoft OneDrive for home accounts and Microsoft 365 work or school accounts cannot be merged, but they can be used side by side.
Open your Dropbox folder. Right-click or command-click the shared folder you'd like to change. Next to the name of a member, click the dropdown and select Make owner. Click Share.
To give direct access permission:
- Step 1: Login to your Microsoft 365 account.
- Step 2: Click on OneDrive.
- Step 3: Click on the three dots next to the file that you want to share.
- Step 4: Click on the '+' icon next to the Direct access section.

- To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click Other users and groups and, in Enter the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group, and then click OK.
- To change the owner to a user or group that is listed, in the Change owner to box, click the new owner.
How to change owners
- Open the homescreen for Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, or Google Slides.
- Click the file you want to transfer to someone else.
- Click Share or Share .
- To the right of a person you've already shared the file with, click the Down arrow .
- Click Make owner.
- Click Done.
Browse to the root folder you are working on (one level down from the file/folder you are having trouble with), right click and select PROPERTIES, then click the SECURITY TAB, then the ADVANCED button, then click the REPLACE ALL CHILD PERMISSION ENTRIES… Use CMD line or third party tool to set permissions.
Using a graphical user interface
- Open Windows Explorer.
- In the left pane, browse to the parent folder of the file or folder you want to take ownership of.
- In the right pane, right-click on the target file or folder and select Properties.
- Select the Security tab.
- Click the Advanced button.
- Select the Owner tab.
Although an ordinary user can use chown to change a file's group, ordinary users cannot change a file's ownership.
Right-click on the desired key and select Permissions from the popup menu. On the Permissions dialog box, click Advanced. Click the Owner tab on the Advanced Security settings dialog box. Select the owner name in the Change owner to list box.
How to take ownership of files and folders
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse and find the file or folder you want to have full access.
- Right-click it, and select Properties.
- Click the Security tab to access the NTFS permissions.
- Click the Advanced button.
- On the "Advanced Security Settings" page, you need to click the Change link, in the Owner's field.
To fix this issue, you have to gain the Permission to delete it. You will have to take ownership of the folder and here is what you need to do. Right-click on the folder that you want to delete and go to Properties. After that, you will see a Security tab.
To make a desired directory/file writable, simply change file permissions to 775, if you want everyone to be able to write into the directory, set the permissions to 777. It can be done via file manager from the cPanel or via FTP client. Right click on the file and select "Permissions".
Taking ownership means standing up and announcing that you are responsible for executing a particular task or project. Sometimes taking ownership will just mean being accountable for a project within your job description. Taking ownership also means making an active and enthusiastic commitment.
OneDrive for home is online personal storage that you get when you set up a Microsoft account to use services such as Outlook.com or Xbox. Use OneDrive to save documents, photos, and other files in the cloud, share them with friends, and even collaborate on content.
The OneDrive sync client is included with every edition of Windows 10, allowing you to keep a local copy of files and folders stored in either OneDrive or OneDrive for Business. By default, your files are stored in a top-level folder in your user profile.
Not to be confused with Google One and Google Drive (tech folks are getting really creative with product names), if you have a Microsoft or Outlook account, you'll start off with 5GB of cloud storage for free. Apps: OneDrive is available on iOS, Android, and Microsoft's own Windows Phone mobile OS.
Google Drive is a cloud storage service, and like all cloud services, its primary function is to take some load off your hard drive. Cloud storage works by uploading your files to its own remote servers — or the “cloud” — freeing up space on your computer.
What are the most common OneDrive risks? All the security issues tied with using OneDrive are common for most cloud storage services. Both individual OneDrive and OneDrive for Business have multiple risks, including data theft, data loss, corrupted data, and the inadvertent sharing of critical information.
In Windows 10, you don't need to download or install a special program for OneDrive — it's already baked into Windows. If you have the program installed, OneDrive syncs data among computers, phones, and/or tablets that are set up using the same Microsoft account, as soon as you connect to a network.
Delete files or folders in OneDrive
- Go to the OneDrive website.
- Select the files or folders you want to delete by pointing to each item and clicking the circle check box that appears.
- To select all files in a folder, click the circle to the left of the header row, or press CTRL + A on your keyboard.
- On the bar at the top of the page, select Delete.
What is OneDrive? OneDrive is Microsoft's storage service for hosting files in the cloud. It is available for free to all the owners of a Microsoft account. OneDrive offers you a simple way to store, sync, and share your files.
Select the OneDrive (white or blue cloud) icon in the Windows notification area, and then in the activity center, select More > Settings > Auto Save > Update folders. Now deselect the folder(s) you want to make local and then choose to stop protection (no more cloud cloning/syncing).
See who a file or folder is shared with
- Select the file.
- Click the Information icon. in the upper right to open the Details pane.
- Click Manage Access.
In your OneDrive, select the Personal Vault folder. Select the Personal Vault options icon, and then select Lock.
The files and folders you store in OneDrive are private until you decide to share them and you can see who a OneDrive file is shared with or stop sharing at any time.
You won't lose files or data by unlinking OneDrive from your computer. You can always access your files by signing in to OneDrive.com.
To change with whom a file or folder is shared:
- Click Advanced on the Manage Access pane.
- On the Advanced screen, click the manage links link to access the Share screen.
- On the Share screen, click Shared with to bring up a list of users that your file or folder is shared with.
Stop sharing a file
- Open the homescreen for Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, or Google Slides.
- Select a file or folder.
- Click Share or Share .
- Find the person you want to stop sharing with.
- To the right of their name, click the Down arrow. Remove.
- To save changes, click Save.
