4) The Scarlett may not be connecting if Windows has assigned the incorrect driver to the device or it is not assigned correctly. Please disconnect the Scarlett, restart your computer and connect the Scarlett to a different USB port to allow Windows to assign it correctly.
We suggest leaving them on during sessions but turning it off when the studio is not in use. They should always be the first thing you switch on and the last thing you switch off in your set up so as to avoid spikes going through the rest of the system whilst gear is turned on.
solution: go to the recording device in windows settings (sound -> recording -> focusrite usb -> advanced) and check that the format isn't set to 8 channel. if it is, change it to 2 channel 24 bit or 16 bit at whatever sample rate your interface is running. this immediately fixed the problem for me.
Unplug the mics completely and make sure the scarlett is plugged into the main USB in the back and not a slave input or a hub. If phantom power is on make sure it's off. If the only way to shut phantom power off is in the software mixer make sure the ac is plugged in.
If you launch Focusrite Control and receive an error that says No Hardware Connected, be sure that the USB cable is fully inserted and that the drivers are installed correctly. In the 'Playback' and 'Recording' tabs, make sure the Focusrite/Scarlett option is selected here as the default device. If it isn't already, right click and select 'Set as Default Device'. The best way to set up a new interface is simple: First go to Pro Tools > Setup > Playback Engine and select the Scarlett 2i2, or other interface you wish to use, from the drop down menu. After that go to Setup > I/O. Delete every single path in Input and Output tabs.
Download and Install Focusrite USB Drivers for Windows
- Disconnect your Focusrite interface and visit Focusrite's download page.
- Select your product from either drop-down menu and click on the driver download link under the Software section.
- When the download completes, open your Downloads folder.
You will find your bundle code either on the inside of the box, on a getting started guide, or on a bundle code card depending on which product you have purchased.
Installing Scarlett/Forte/iTrack USB Drivers on Windows

The pad button on the 2i4 brings down the input gain on the specific input so the guitar, once plugged in, won't cause any clipping. Obviously, the 2i2 doesn't have that. So what the DI box does is brings down the level of the guitar to mic level input instead, thus no clipping.

If you wish to turn this off you should follow the directions for your interface below. Switch the direct monitor switch to "off" on the front of the hardware. Set the direct monitoring knob all the way to the "Playback" side on the front of the hardware. Mute or turn down Inputs 1 and 2 in Forte Control.
