Standard contents policies will cover your mobile phone the same as any other item in the home. You will be covered for loss or theft of your mobile phone in the home (for example if it's stolen during a break-in) as well as if it's damaged in a fire, flood, escape of water, etc.
How soon can I claim on phone insurance? With the more reputable companies, as soon as your phone is lost, damaged or stolen, you can make a claim on your phone insurance – no matter how long you've had the policy.
