Press a "Menu" button on the exterior of the machine and scroll until you get to the "Information" menu. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the options until you see "Print Configuration Page." Click the "Select" button to print a configuration page. This configuration page should list the IP address of the printer.
In Windows, search for and open Control Panel. Click Devices and Printers, and then click Add a printer. On the Choose a device or printer to add to this PC window, select your printer, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.
Connect the printer again to regain access to HP Printer Assistant tools.
- Click Connect a new printer.
- Select the connection type when prompted, and then follow the on-screen instructions to set up the printer.
- Turn off the printer, and then restart your computer.
- Turn on the printer, and then open HP Printer Assistant.
Plug the printer into a working wall outlet, and then test the Power button on the printer. Make sure the power cord is connected to the rear of the printer and is plugged directly into a wall outlet. Press and release the Power button to start a Power On/Off cycle. Do not hold the button down.
Installing an HP Printer in Windows Using a USB Cable
- Go to 123.hp.com, enter your printer model, and then follow the onscreen instructions to download your driver.
- Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, enter your printer model, if prompted, and then confirm the operating system version is correct.
The maximum theoretical distance is around 1000 feet. However the actual maximum you can expect operating system much less; it depends on walls in the way, the hardware you have, the conditions at the time.
Android
- Make sure your Android device is connected to the same wireless network that you want to connect your printer to.
- Go to 123.hp.com from a browser on your phone or tablet and install the HP Smart app.
- Turn on the printer.
- Prepare the printer for a wireless network connection.
If you recently updated your browser, security software, operating system or firewalls, it could cause issues connecting to your printer. In this case, reconnect your device to the network, reconfigure security settings to include printers, and/or install updated drivers.
If the ePrint job fails to print, check the printer Internet connection and printing requirements. To receive ePrint jobs, the printer must be on and connected to the Internet. Turn the printer off and on again to clear any existing problems. Print a test page from a device on the same local network.
To restore your HP printer to factory-default settings, follow these steps.
- Turn the printer off. Disconnect the power cable from the printer for 30 seconds and then reconnect.
- Turn the printer on while you press and hold the Resume button for 10-20 seconds. The Attention light turns on.
- Release the Resume button.
Turning on Web Services allows your printer to communicate securely over the Internet with web-connected printing services, including HP ePrint cloud printing and HP Instant Ink delivery services. note: If you are turning on Web Services to set up your printer on HP Connected, go to Setting Up an HP Connected Account.
Installation
- Press the Windows key.
- Click Settings.
- Click Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Click Add a printer.
- Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings, and click Next.
- Select Create a new port.
- Change the Type of port to Standard TCP/IP Port, and click Next.
Printers with a touchscreen or LCD display
- On your printer control panel, touch or press the HP ePrint icon or button, and then touch or press Settings.
- Select Turn Off, Disable, or Remove, depending on your printer model.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to turn off Web Services.
You can connect your printer physically to a Chromebook using a USB cable.
- Plug the cable into your printer, and then plug the other end into your Chromebook.
- Open your Chromebook's settings and type “print” into the search box.
- Select “Printers,” and then click the blue “Add Printer” button.

Connect your printer to the web, and then get the printer code.
- Turn on the printer, load plain paper in the input tray, and make sure ink or toner cartridges are installed.
- Turn on Web Services: Touchscreen displays: On the printer, touch or press the HP ePrint button or icon .
Use these additional options to print from a Chromebook to an HP printer. HP Print for Chrome app: Supports printing through the Chrome browser to USB and network connected printers. Google Cloud Print: Print from anywhere from any web-connected computer or mobile device.
You can connect your printer physically to a Chromebook using a USB cable. Plug the cable into your printer, and then plug the other end into your Chromebook. Open your Chromebook's settings and type “print” into the search box. Select “Printers,” and then click the blue “Add Printer” button.
You can print from your Chromebook using most printers that connect to Wi-Fi or a wired network. Tip: You can also use a USB cable to connect your printer to your Chromebook. Your printer won't need to be connected to Wi-Fi if it is directly connected to your Chromebook.
Add a Local Printer
- Connect the printer to your computer using the USB cable and turn it on.
- Open the Settings app from the Start menu.
- Click Devices.
- Click Add a printer or scanner.
- If Windows detects your printer, click on the name of the printer and follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation.
