The HOPE IV program is a demonstration that combines rental assistance with case management and supportive services to help very low-income, frail, elderly persons remain in an independent living environment and to prevent their premature placement in nursing homes.
Start by calling Washington State 211 at 2-1-1 from a landline, 206-461-3200 or 800-621-4636 or 206-461-3610 for TTY/hearing impaired calls. You'll be asked to explain your situation and give your address and zip code for referrals to agencies serving the area where you live.
To be considered eligible the applicant must demonstrate that the total anticipated household income for the year after move-in is below a maximum income limit for the unit. Eligible tenants will receive a restricted rent that is capped at a maximum amount for a defined period.

The Multifamily Property Tax Exemption (MFTE) Program provides a tax exemption on eligible multifamily housing in exchange for income- and rent-restricted units. By supporting mixed-income residential development in the urban centers, the MFTE program ensures affordabilty as the community grows.
The qualifying standard to be eligible for a housing voucher is income. Combined household income must be less than 50% of the median income in the resident's community (the Area Median Income, or AMI.) In the Metro area, that's about $50,000 for the baseline family of four.
The Rent Deduction Scheme lets you pay your public housing rent straight from your Centrelink payments. You can arrange this with your state or territory housing authority. It's a free service. Centrepay is a service that lets you pay bills and expenses as regular deductions from your Centrelink payments.

Who is eligible for subsidized housing?

The individual/household applies for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. The applicant is likely placed on a waiting list that may take more than 1-2 years. During this time, the applicant can also choose to accept project-based vouchers.
Under the new law, Landlords must accept all sources of income, including Section 8 housing vouchers, public assistance, emergency rental assistance, veterans benefits, social security, and SSI benefits.

If you are interested in applying for SNAP low-income housing, call Kiemle & Hagood for an application and eligibility information. SNAP Homeless Services Programs are located at the Downtown SNAP office. Landlords will do a background and credit check for each adult in the household.
The good news is that almost all homebuyers are eligible to purchase a HUD home in WA. The first step: Contact a public housing agency to get the ball rolling. Most homebuyers and real estate investors buy HUD listings at local auctions or online auctions.
For a single person in those counties -- $50,400 is considered low income. In Pierce County, a low income for a family of four makes $59,000, the median income is $74,500 and low income for one person is $41,750.
