How much does an Oyster card cost? The Oyster card costs £5. You then add money to the card to pay for your travel. After one year the £5 fee will be added to your pay as you go money.

You can buy one using either cash or your credit/debit card. Although there are a few manned ticket offices in London, the likelihood is that you will buy an Oyster card from a ticket machine. You can also buy them in a few newsagents, which will clearly display a sign in their window.
New 60+ London Oyster photocard will give free travel on all TfL services from 1 November. However, unlike the Freedom Pass, 60+ Oystercard holders will not be able to use their card to travel free of charge on local bus services in other parts of the country.

A general rule of thumb is that Off-Peak will begin at 09:30 Mondays to Fridays in cities and large towns, and 09:00 across the rest of the network. Weekends and Bank Holidays are Off-Peak all day.
