Documented USDA violations at some of Petland's breeders and suppliers included: dirty, broken- down enclosures; inadequate shelter from the cold; dogs kept in too-small cages; and inadequate veterinary care. Some of the breeders were found with sick or dead dogs left in their cages.

Puppies sold at Petland cost anywhere from $2,500 to $9,000, according to a representative for the Petland location in Dallas.
What happens to pet store puppies who aren't sold? As with other unsold inventory, they go on sale. Stores buy puppies for a fraction of what they charge their customers. If the puppy still doesn't sell, stores will often cut their losses and give puppies away to employees, friends or rescue groups.
Each has different reasons. For example, cost of vaccines, if the dog was in an accident, was flown in from across the world, “benefactor dog” or purebred puppies from breeders that gave them up have a higher price to raise money for other dogs, at a fancier organization, etc.
Petland claims that they only buy from breeders with “the highest standards,” but the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has found that they continue to buy from known puppy mills and out-of- state brokers that deal with puppy mills.
Almost all pet stores, especially large chains such as Petland, purchase their parrots from bird mills. Petland sells large parrots, ones that possess lifespans of over 70 years, meaning that the birds who do not get sold must live in a cage for that long at Petland.

How long does a bunny live?
Rabbits usually do not bite, but if one does, generally it doesn't mean that he hates you. There are many reasons that might cause a rabbit to bite; for example, he might bite if you grab at him or surprise him. A rabbit may also accidentally bite while tugging at your pant leg.
They are a safe, undyed, untreated toy that's perfect for rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, gerbils, hamsters, chinchillas, rats, and mice.
Rabbit nails should be trimmed as required. This can vary between individual rabbits, but basically, if they are getting too long they can be trimmed. Your vet can trim the nails and show you how to do it safely and what length is suitable. It's important not to trim too short as this can cause bleeding and pain.
This week, the company finally announced that it will no longer sell rabbits in it stores. PETCO, like PetSmart, continues to sell countless other animals who are bred, born, and warehoused in cruel animal mills such as Rainbow World Exotics (RWE).
my rescue here does a monthly grooming/nail trim thing for donations, usually $5-$10 per rabbit. Some people give more, some less. They do the full nail trim, anal glands, brushing, and check teeth.
Rabbits are amazing, affectionate, and social pets. They can be great house pets if you take the time to socialize them and learn about their basic body language. House Rabbit Society foster volunteers bring abandoned rabbits into their own homes until permanent homes can be found. Because of the overwhelming number of unwanted rabbits, we are only able to take in rabbits scheduled to be destroyed at animal shelters. Even then we can only save a few.
Rabbits are everything the hamster is not. While they too are small (compared to a dog), even the tiniest bunny is bigger than the largest hamster. This means that rabbits can't be kept in a cage all their life, like a hamster. You're going to need to let the bunny out.

Typically, a rabbit from a shelter or humane society will be around 25 USD. Adopting from a private rescue center can typically cost 50+ USD. Adopting provides benefits ranging from an included spay or neuter, free microchipping, and a free veterinarian checkup within a certain amount of days within adoption.
Wild rabbits can be found in woods, forests, meadows, grasslands, deserts, tundra and wetlands. Wild rabbits create their own homes by tunneling into the ground. These tunnel systems are called warrens and include rooms for nesting and sleeping.
Drive a bit further and take them to an animal shelter, where they will have a chance at finding a new forever home. Leaving them at the side of the road: Wild rabbits have no road sense, that's why so many of them end up as roadkill. Pet rabbits don't even know what a road is.
