Most obviously, you'll see a large dark grey notification on the lock screen. This will also tell you how long the mode will be on for. If there's room for it (the X- and 11-series handsets don't, because of the notch), a faint little crescent-moon icon will appear in the top bar on your iPhone or iPad's screen.

Pixel 2: Set up a driving rule
- Open your phone's Settings app.

Here's how to do it:
- Open Messages app and tap on the conversation thread that you want to set Do Not Disturb for.
- Tap on the blue circle with an “i” on the upper right.
- Move the slider for Hide Alerts to the right to enable Do Not Disturb feature for this contact.

Do Not Disturb App is a helpful android phone setting for periods when you do not want to be interrupted, such as meetings, formal events or at night. You can schedule Do Not Disturb to repeat at the same time each day, and to set exceptions for emergency or special calls to ring through.
Do Not Disturb During Bedtime is a hidden feature that enables Do Not Disturb mode (which mutes incoming notifications), darkens the Lock screen, and hides all notifications in Notification Center during your Bedtime hours. There, you'll see a button for Do Not Disturb During Bedtime. Tap it to enable the feature.
How to set up Do Not Disturb with exceptions for iOS and Android
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Sound. Do Not Disturb. If you see “Do Not Disturb preferences” instead, you're using an older Android version. See steps for Android 8.1 and below.
- Under “Exceptions,” choose what to allow. Calls: To allow calls, tap Allow calls.
This only appears to happen when the phone is locked. In settings, "Do Not Disturb" is turned off, but the checkbox under "Silence" is still on (see image). The only choices there are "Silence Always" or "Silence When Phone is Locked." Calls are being allowed from Everyone.

Do Not Disturb doesn't work with Emergency and Amber alerts. Because they signal an emergency that could affect your life and safety or someone else's, Do Not Disturb can't block these alerts.

- Open the Contacts app on the iPhone.
- Tap on the name of the contact whose text messages you want to receive when in DND mode.

- Swipe the Emergency Bypass switch (at the top of the screen) to ON.
The moon means you've hidden alerts for that contact or conversation. You can swipe to the left on the conversation in Messages and select "Show Alerts" from the colored options that appear. will appear next to the conversation.
