Wi-Fi Calling (aka Voice over Wi-Fi or VoWiFi) is a built-in feature on most of our current smartphones. Wi-Fi Calling lets you make and receive voice calls, texts and video calls over a Wi-Fi network instead of using a cellular network.
Use Google Services without a SIM cardIt allows users to make calls over the Internet. You can port your old phone number into Google Voice, and still receive calls through Google Voice using an active Wi-Fi connection. In short you can use your old Android device like a Wi-Fi enabled tablet!
Once you've set up Wi-Fi calling, you can make a call over Wi-Fi just like any other call. When you're connected to the internet, you'll see "Internet Call" or "Wi-Fi calling" on the notification screen. When you're not connected to Wi-Fi, your calls will use your mobile carrier, if you have one.
With any Wi-Fi calling-capable Android device, you can set your device to prefer wifi calling by:
- Apps icon > Settings > Advanced Calling.
- Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
- Tap When Roaming.
- Tap Prefer Wi-Fi.
There's no change to your regular bill when you use Wi-Fi Calling. Calls and texts come out of your monthly allowance as normal. If you go over your allowances you'll be charged at standard rates. Depending on your current settings and allowances, you'll be able to make international and premium calls.
Wi-Fi Calling allows you to make and receive calls over a Wi-Fi network if cellular is not available. You can make and receive calls on Wi-Fi using your phone number. Wi-Fi calls to US numbers are free, even while traveling internationally. Video Calls no longer require an LTE connection to be initiated in Wi-Fi.

VoLTE stands for Voice over Long-Term Evolution. With VoLTE, you can choose to answer your call simultaneously while playing or watching. VoWiFi, on the other hand, stands for Voice over WiFi. It's similar to VoLTE, but instead of making voice calls over the LTE network, you do it over the WiFi network.
Then follow these steps:
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling.
- Turn on Add Wi-Fi Calling For Other Devices.
- Go back to the previous screen, then tap Calls on Other Devices.
- Turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices if it's not on.
- Turn on each device that you want to use with Wi-Fi Calling.
Step 2: Enable Wi-Fi Calling on your phoneConnect to Wi-Fi and enable the feature on your phone. On any supported iPhone, it's Settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Calling. Android settings vary, but the option can usually be found in the Settings app or the Phone app.
Here are some reasons why WiFi calling may not be working: The WiFi calling setting is turned off in your phone's settings. You don't have a WiFi network connection. Your device will prioritize a network connection over WiFi when the connection is strong enough to make and receive calls.
Simply put, VoWiFi uses the internet as the mode of transmission for calls, SMS, and MMS. It stands for voice over WiFi. It works with the existing Airtel/Jio SIM, through the default phone dialer and messaging app without any need for 3rd party app or log in.
